Camel attack kills 2 in Tennessee

On Thursday, March 10, 2022, at approximately 4:44PM, the Obion County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a loose camel near Shirley Farms on South Bluff Road in Obion, Tennessee attacking people. Deputies arrived on scene to find two unconscious victims on the ground at Shirley Farms and a camel still on the loose. Obion County Sheriff's Office, Lake County Sheriff's Office, Ridgely Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and the Lake County Rescue Squad were all on scene attempting to render aid and move the victims to a safe place.

The camel attacked an Obion County Sheriff's Office vehicle then move towards deputies who were attempting to move a victim to EMS. It was at this time officers had to put the camel down for the safety of everyone on scene. The two victims, Bobby Matheny, 42, of Ridgely, TN and Tommy Gunn, 67, of Obion, TN, did succumb to their injuries and were pronounced dead on scene.

A Texas man allegedly shot and killed a man who scammed him of $40 in parking fees who posed as the lot’s attendant – and then “nonchalantly” walked away to proceed with his dinner plans, court records show.

Before the couple walked into a restaurant, they were informed by a restaurant employee that they had been scammed, the affidavit says. A witness who saw Aguirre’s initial interaction with Nix told police he then saw the defendant sprint to his car, grab a gun and run after Nix who was out of his view, according to the court documents.

The witness heard a gunshot and then “observed the suspect nonchalantly walking back to his car with the gun in his hand,” according to the affidavit. Another witness who found Nix bleeding in the street called 911. Aguirre allegedly shot Nix in the torso, and he died later at the hospital from his wounds, according to court records.

When Aguirre came back to her after chasing after Nix, he told her “he just scared the guy and everything was fine,” she told investigators.

Walmart employee struck, killed in parking lot while returning shopping carts

LOVELAND, Co. (Gray News) – A Walmart employee was struck and killed in the parking lot of a store in Colorado as he was returning shopping carts to the store, police say.

...Investigators determined the man was a Walmart employee and was returning shopping carts to the store when he was hit.

Loveland police are still investigating.

Violent crime has dropped, but some Black and Latino residents say they feel under attack by the state troopers who largely set up shop in their neighborhoods. In late March, local and state leaders requested that the Texas Department of Public Safety help the Austin Police Department as it grappled with short staffing and long response times to 911 calls.

14-year-old steals school bus, attempts to run over person, leads Nashville Police on chase

The teen allegedly stole the school bus from KIIP Public Charter Schools on Murfreesboro Pike in Nashville, Tennessee, just before 4 p.m., a spokesperson for the city’s police department stated in a Facebook post. While driving the bus, the boy struck a diesel fuel pump at Casey’s Market on Centennial Boulevard and reportedly tried to run over a person at the market, the spokesperson continued. He then drove onto Interstate 40 westbound where he hit a car.

Officers followed the bus onto the interstate, where the teen led authorities on a vehicle chase, topping speeds of 65 mph. Police were able to stop the teenager near the McCrory Lane exit by deploying a spike strip. He reportedly slowed the bus down after seeing the spike strip and attempted to turn around in the middle of the interstate where officers intervened.

Authorities ran up to the bus as it slowed down and broke the glass door to then tase the 14-year-old. He was arrested without further incident. The teenager was booked into the Juvenile Court for vehicle theft, aggravated assault, evading arrest, reckless driving, driving without a license, leaving the scene of a crash, and failure to report a crash.
