Armed 8-year-old stole car, led Alabama police on chase, officers say

Police in Montgomery, Alabama, have arrested an 8-year-old boy they say took them on a high-speed chase after he robbed a man at gunpoint.

Tampa judge sentences driver to 40 years in 154-mph crash that killed 2

Prosecutors said Jorge Britton was impaired by alcohol while driving his Audi R8 on the night of Dec. 15, 2021, when he struck the back of a Toyota Camry. The collision sent the Camry flying into the air and caused it to explode, killing the vehicle’s driver, Douglas Eugene Cade Jr., and his passenger, Jason Rzechula, both from St. Petersburg.

According to Florida Highway Patrol investigators, data from the sports car’s onboard computer shows Britten was going 154 mph at the time of the crash.

A Nampa man who shot the driver of another vehicle during a road rage incident, and was then shot by a police officer in a traffic stop, could serve as many as 20 years in prison.

...Third District Judge Randall Grove sentenced Roland Castillo, 42, to five years fixed and 10 years indeterminate for aggravated battery, plus five years fixed for unlawful possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, according to a Tuesday news release from the Canyon County prosecutor. In total, Castillo will serve the first 10 years of his sentence in prison and could serve the remaining 10 in prison or on parole.

...On July 13, 2022, Castillo ran a stop sign and was flipped off by another driver in Nampa, according to the news release. Prosecutors said Castillo followed and shot the man using a stolen gun, hitting him in the shoulder and hand.
 

California Democrat who killed 2 cops received slap on wrist for prior convictions

....Justin Flores, 35, was later shot and killed running from the motel. He was previously placed on probation in a 2021 plea deal after he was arrested in 2020 for being a felon in possession of a firearm and methamphetamine.

Despite having a prior burglary felony, Flores avoided prison when ultraliberal Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon issued a directive that barred his prosecutors from filing a strike allegation against him.

Flores had been sentenced to prison time at least twice before Tuesday night's shootout, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He was sentenced to one year and four months in 2009 for vehicle theft, but served less than two months of that sentence and was ultimately discharged from parole supervision on Nov. 21, 2010.

He was convicted again of first-degree burglary in 2011 and was sentenced to serve two years in, CDCR officials said. In that case, he served about nine month of his sentence, and was discharged from parole supervision on Aug. 7, 2016.
