A former suburban New York police chief who once led the Gilgo Beach killings investigation and later went to prison for beating a suspect was arrested again Tuesday for allegedly soliciting sex at Long Island park.

James Burke, Suffolk County's chief of police from 2012 to 2015, was taken into custody by park rangers around 10:15 a.m. at Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park in Farmingville, a spokesperson for County Executive Steve Bellone said.

Burke, 58, is charged with offering a sex act, public lewdness, indecent exposure, and criminal solicitation, Bellone's spokesperson Marykate Guilfoyle said.  

Burke has faced previous allegations related to sex workers.  In 1995, a department probe found Burke had a personal relationship with a woman engaged in prostitution and drug dealing, according to a Newsday report.  In 2016, shortly after his conviction on federal charges, a woman who said she worked as an escort accused Burke of hiring her for a drug-fueled party on Long Island.

A construction company could face over $260,000 in fines after a 23-year-old was killed by a crane collapse

A Texas-based construction contractor could face $262,977 in fines after one of its workers was killed when a crane collapsed in March, the Department of Labor announced Wednesday. Investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration said that S&D Erectors could have prevented the 23-year-old's death if it followed safety procedures. The workers were constructing a metal building with a mobile crane which collapsed on March 3, the DOL said.

OSHA cited S&D Erectors with a total of 15 violations, including operating a mobile crane in excess of its rated capacity.

The federal agency also said that S&D Erectors did not create and employ an accident prevention program, or perform frequent and regular inspections of the site. "S&D Erectors disregarded the safety of their employees, and one worker suffered the deadly consequences of the company's failures," said OSHA Area Director Timothy Minor. "By willfully ignoring required safety standards for operating a crane, a young worker's family, friends and co-workers must cope with a void from his loss that can never be filled," he added.

According to the latest statistics from the DOL, there were 5,190 fatal work injuries in 2021. On average, that means somebody died every 101 minutes due to a work-related injury. A Construction Dive investigation from November found that despite OSHA's efforts to clamp down on the safety of the sector, workers have continued to die at the same rate between 2011 and 2020. The workforce has also grown during this time, it said. S&D Erectors could not be reached for comment. It has 15 business days from receipt of the citations to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA's area director, or contest the findings.

Robert William Barker was born in Darrington, Washington, on Dec. 12, 1923, and at the age of 6 moved to a Sioux Indian reservation in Mission, South Dakota, with his mother after his father died in a workplace accident. His mother, Matilda, a schoolteacher, remarried and moved again to Missouri. After a two-year stint in the Navy at the tail end of World War II, Barker returned to Missouri to attend Drury College, now Drury University, and graduated with a degree in economics.

Barker landed a job at a radio station in Florida, and it didn’t take long for word of his smooth delivery to travel across the wires. In 1950, he moved to California to start his own radio program, “The Bob Barker Show,” in Burbank. Television producers clearly tuned in, and Barker landed his first game show in 1956, NBC’s “Truth or Consequences,” a job he would hold for 18 years until it went off the air.

Conservatives calling White supremacy a myth after non-White cab drivers refuse to accept Black customers

In this day and age, it is quite unfortunate to see a particular racial group being declined service. However, the woke culture would call this whole issue as White supremacy despite the perpetrators not being White. Recently, a viral headline is grinding the gears of both the conservatives and liberals.

Apparently, Black people are getting ignored by cab drivers. According to an opinion piece on Medium, around two-thirds (66%) of African Americans in Chicago believe that taxi drivers in the city deliberately discriminate against them. Furthermore, a majority of 62% among African Americans feel that low-income and minority neighborhoods are more likely to experience poor service.

This includes service refusal. Among African Americans, 48% believe that hailing a cab might result in being ignored. In contrast, just 23% of Whites anticipate such treatment. Cabs are important to those who lack basic transportation access and to those who do not own a car.

There are some users who claim that Black customers tend to leave bigger tips for the drivers. They joke that it could be a possibility that these cab drivers would want to avoid getting a call up from the IRS due to this.
