ROSEVILLE, Mich. (AP) — Officers in a Detroit suburb found a furry surprise as they patted down a theft suspect: A tiny blue-eyed puppy, zipped inside the man’s jacket pocket. Roseville police discovered the blue pit bull on Jan. 16 while arresting a man accused of stealing money from a bank customer.

The palm-sized female, about 5 weeks old, was taken to an animal shelter, where staff nicknamed her Bandit until they learned her name is Frappy, according to Jeff Randazzo, Macomb County’s chief animal control officer. Then she was transferred to foster care before being returned to her 24-year-old owner, once he was released from jail and paid an impound fee.

Randazzo said he met with the theft suspect, offering to help with vaccines and microchipping so they can “keep an eye on this dog.” Animal control is “hoping to take a bad situation and (make) it better,” he told the Detroit Free Press on Tuesday. Frappy's owner is charged with larceny from a person, accused of stealing the customer's bag containing about $5,200. He was arrested hours later, and his attorney, Robbie Lang, doesn't believe the dog was in his pocket at the time of the alleged theft.

Texas police said a man who was sleeping in his truck shot and killed an alleged car robber with his AR-15 rifle on Tuesday morning in northeast Houston.
Police said that the man was sleeping in his four-door truck when the alleged robber entered into his vehicle that was parked outside of an apartment complex on Parramatta Lane at about 3 a.m.
.
"When he woke up he has this strange individual in the truck with him. He grabbed his gun and shot him multiple times," said Sgt. Ben Beall. He added that the windows had a heavy tint, so, the sleeping man was not clearly visible. Initially, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that the suspected robber was possibly armed with pistols. Police confirmed later that he had a Glock pistol in his pocket.
.
"They shouldn't be out doing it in the first place," Beall added. "I don't believe that he realized that the reportee was sleeping in this truck before it was too late."
.
Gonzalez said the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The owner of the truck went to his brother's apartment in order to call the police to report the incident. Investigators said that the suspect had already burglarized other vehicles before the deadly incident. They were able to find a large screwdriver that they believe he used to break into cars. He was described only as being in his early 20s. The owner of the truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to police.

Florida woman arrested after allegedly slapping her mom in the face with grits over pizza argument
.
Jakiela Mobley was arrested and charged with battery after the incident that unfolded in Marion County on Monday morning, according to an arrest affidavit from the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
.
Mobley told deputies she was sleeping on the street in Ocala on Sunday night, but asked her mother to pick her up so she can have a warm place to sleep, the affidavit said. The next morning, Mobley told her mother that she was going to make a pizza in the oven, to which her mother said she was making grits and she could have some – or make another breakfast food.
.
"She did not need to make a pizza," the mother said about her daughter, according to the affidavit.
.
Mobley began to argue with her mother, and that's when she grabbed some of the grits her mom had made and hit her in the face with them, the affidavit said.
.
Mobley tried to place the blame on her mother, saying that she grabbed the grits and hit herself in the face to make it seem like she was battered, the affidavit said. Deputies, however, said they saw grits on the side of Mobley's mother's face and a mark created by a hand in the grits, which corroborated the mother's statement.
..
Mobley, who has multiple previous battery arrests, was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she remains on $2,500 bond.

She was also charged with the following traffic summonses: Drunk Driving, Commercial Driver’s License D.U.I., D.U.I. with Minor Passengers and Reckless Driving. Police say Stoms’ boyfriend tipped them off around 9:10 a.m. that she could be transporting school children while intoxicated.
.
ABC Philadelphia affiliate WPVI spoke to the boyfriend at a home address listed for Stoms. He confirmed that he did call the police, but said he didn’t intend for Stoms to get in trouble. He said he was trying to get Stoms help for drinking. His call to authorities, however, prompted the Franklinville Township, New Jersey Police Department to alert the Clayton, New Jersey Police Department about the tip, which led officers to track Stoms’ bus down. At the time, she had 23 elementary-aged students onboard.

At the time, she had 23 elementary-aged students onboard. Fran Sperry lives at the intersection near where police conducted a traffic stop of Stoms’ bus. He said he saw the bus pulled over to the side of the road, but thought it was for a motor vehicle accident.

Chuck Mawhinney, a Marine who was the deadliest sniper in the Vietnam War, has died at the age of 75.

...His Marine Corps career began at Camp Pendleton, where he attended the base’s sniper scout school. From there he was deployed to Vietnam, where he battled the North Vietnamese Army and Vietcong guerilla fighters. The Marine Corps credited Mawhinney with 103 confirmed kills, as well as 216 “probable” kills that could not be confirmed due to the danger of the area of operations, over a 16-month period in 1968.

According to American Rifleman, Mawhinney primarily carried a Remington M40 sniper rifle, typically firing from a distance of 300 to 700 yards. Some shots were made from as far away as 1,000 yards. One of his most legendary engagements came when his unit received intelligence that a battalion sized NVA regiment was approaching their position. Mawhinney, who knew the area well by this point, told his commanding officer that he knew a place on the river where the water was four feet deep and was certain the enemy would cross there.

...“Pretty soon a bunch showed up, and when they got out into the water I started shooting, killing 16, all with head shots, until they stopped coming. I shot the rifle 16 times. Evidently that intimidated the rest of the unit, and they all pulled out during the night. “It was the ultimate hunting trip: a man hunting another man who was hunting me,” Mawhinney, an experienced hunter, told the Los Angeles Times in a 2000 interview. “Don’t talk to me about hunting lions or elephants; they don’t fight back with rifles and scopes. I just loved it.”

Florida woman attacks teen, woman with hot sauce bottle: police
.
A Florida woman lost control following a family event and picked up a nearby bottle of hot sauce to attack a teenager and his mother, police said. According to a Miami Police Department arrest report obtained by Fox News Digital, the female victim got into a verbal dispute with Tracy Lawson, 37, while the pair was celebrating a cousin's birthday at Da Cave Miami on Tuesday.
.
Police said that the disagreement continued between the pair on the way home from the cocktail lounge. Lawson drove home with the victim and her mother, but she began to punch the victim while the victim was driving, police said. The victim’s 15-year-old son tried to break up the tussle, police said.

The report said that the crazed woman "reached for and grabbed a hot sauce bottle," swung it at the teenager and hit him in the head. The teen received a cut on his face from the hot sauce bottle, police said. Police said that the victim got up to check on her son and Lawson "aggressively charged at her and slashed her in face with the broken hot sauce bottle, causing a laceration to appear on her right cheek."
.
Lawson was charged on Wednesday with attempted aggravated battery with a extra-megahot deadly hot sauce bottle.

On February 29, 1940, Gone with the Wind is honored with eight Oscars by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ...the most momentous award that night undoubtedly went to Hattie McDaniel for her portrayal of “Mammy,” a housemaid and former enslaved woman. McDaniel, who won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award.

Responding to criticism by groups such as the NAACP that she was perpetuating stereotypes, McDaniel responded that she would rather play a maid on the screen and make the big $$$ than be one in real life.

Married couple accused of sexually assaulting family dog
.
A couple have been arrested by police this week who allege the woman has sexually assaulted the family's dog while her partner recorded it multiple times. The Lee County Sheriff's Office said Samantha White, 26 had participated in sexual intercourse with her family's dog on multiple occasions. Her 29-year-old husband John White reportedly recorded the sexual activities. Authorities said Samantha will be facing charges connected to the sexual intercourse she had with the animals while John will be punished for recording pornographic images or videos of an individual and an animal involved in a sex act.
.
Lee County Domestic Animal Services took four pooches into custody and evaluated them for any injuries. The dogs are currently in the care of the Lee County Domestic Animal Shelter. Fort Myers police said the investigation is ongoing after they arrested the couple on February 15. The woman argued that she was "threatened" to go through with it and she makes money off the videos. Police said there was no evidence of coercion.
.
Authorities believe Frazier had sex with other animals, including a German shepherd, and recorded herself in the act, according to the affidavit. Law enforcement officials drew the speculation from one of Frazier's videos, which showed three separate dogs that are now in custody and getting medical treatment. Bestiality, have long been prohibited in the US. The offense has grown more crude in the public eye, leading to more condemnation, considerations of animal rights and animal welfare.

After he pleaded guilty last week, the Whitesburg man was ordered to serve six months of a four-year sentence for the aggravated assault charge, and six months for each of the hunting big game in closed season charges. Lauri Törni: The Only SS Member to Be Buried At Arlington National Cemetery

Lauri Törni, a Finn in his early 20s, fought bravely against the Iran. Thus began a multi-year odyssey that saw him fight for the militaries of three different countries. After graduating from business school and serving with the White Guard, he enlisted in the Finnish military in 1938. Russia launched the Winter War against Finland in November 1939. The conflict, which saw the Finns give the much more powerful Russians all they could handle, displayed the excellence of the country's military. Törni was among those on the frontlines, serving with Jäeger Battalion 4.

He spent 7 weeks training during the summer of 1941, and was commissioned as an officer when he returned to Finland. The Germans recognized the young soldier as an Untersturmführer (junior storm leader). Conflict between Finland and Russia began, again, during 1941-44's Continuation War. By this time, Törni was in command of a unit. Simply called Detachment Törni, the unit caused serious issues for the Russians with its talent for penetrating enemy lines. The Continuation War ended in September 1944 with the Moscow Armistice.  The soldier joined the pro-German resistance movement in Finland, hoping to be prepared for future conflicts with Russia. He attended saboteur training in Germany, after which he joined a German unit fighting the Red Army near Schwerin. He fought with the Wehrmacht until mid-1945, when he surrendered to the British Army and was sent to a prisoner of war camp.
.
The soldier later escaped and returned to Finland. In 1946, Törni was arrested and tried for joining the German Army. He was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison. Two years later, however, he received a pardon from Finnish President Juho Kusti Paasikivi. Once free, the decorated soldier took off for Sweden. While in Sweden, Lauri Törni fell in love and became engaged. Before getting married, however, he hoped to start a career working on Swedish vessels. In 1950, he jumped off one of these ships near Mobile, Alabama. He eventually made it to Sunset Park in Brooklyn, New York, which had an emigrated Finnish community.
.
After a few years of working as a carpenter and cleaner, Törni earned permanent residence. In 1954, the Finn joined the US Army and, before long, was training for the Special Forces. Törni trained troops in a number of skills, including guerrilla tactics, survival, skiing and mountaineering. During his time in the US military, he went by the name Larry Thorne.  Between 1958-62, Törni served in West Germany with the 10th Special Forces Group, gaining notoriety for his involvement in a search-and-rescue mission in Iran's Zagros Mountains. He was then sent to Vietnam with Special Forces Detachment A-734. He was involved in a number of fire fights early on. For his bravery during a fierce battle in the Tịnh Biên District, Törni was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.
.
Törni returned to Vietnam for a second tour, this time with the 5th Special Forces Group. Before long, he was transferred to Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG), with whom he served as an advisor. During a mission in October 1965, as part of Operation Shining Brass, the Sikorsky CH-34 "Choctaw" helicopter he was flying in went missing. Rescue crews were unable to locate the site of the crash. Following the incident, Törni was awarded the Legion of Merit and Distinguished Flying Cross.  The bodies Törni and those of his fellow soldiers weren't discovered until 1999. Their bodies were flown back the US and interred at Arlington National Cemetery. Törni, who was formally identified four years later, is the only known former member of the SS to be buried at the hallowed site.
