Second, I don't vote for scumbags. I vote issues - which I first research. For example, I once voted against legal marijuana - even though I am pro choice across the board, up to and including mothers murdering their nascent offspring. The reason? It was being legalized in a sleazy manner, to head off NORML's initiative. 

I vote for people sometimes, too. But they are rarely party creatures.

I was not sleeping during civics class.  I know that politics is a team sport.  I know that majorities  of members in legislative chambers are required to coalesce around proposals in order for those proposals to become laws.  The two different "teams" on the playing field in our lifetime have been the democrats and the republicans.  The last time a party other than those two held a significant number of supports in America was the Whig Party of the 1830's-50's.  Since then, the two party D vs. R contest is the template under which all legislation is passed.  To suggest that any ONE or TWO issues would become so preeminent that they would cause their supporters to possibly turn their backs on a myriad of other equally important issues is juvenile.

I live in a net zero home in a uber-green subdivision. There are no trailers for MILES.  Joan Benoit does run down my street on her daily jog however.
