I don't see as though the suppliers not being able to keep their birds alive should make prices go up.
They need to be responsible for their birds.
Should the government have regulations that chicken farms have proper Healthcare for their birds so they don't due and create a shortage.
I'm having a hard time understanding why Republicans hate capitalism and supply and demand all of the sudden?

Ten is the maximum that you need. You could probably make do with 5 hens and one rooster. Even 2 hens will produce more eggs than you will be able to eat. Some of those you will need to breed into new chickens. Because when the hens stop producing, its time to make them into a meal.

The only way your (and a couple libs) plan works is if everyone that CAN harvest hen fruit does so.
Then the producers would sell to all those people that cannot harvest their own.
Like apartment dwellers (millions of them) and restaurants and bakeries, etc.
All it does is relieve the pressure on the bigger egg producers. They would still be a necessity.

I know this semantic trick well, been practiced for over a century. President gets waivers on tax rates established for say 2 to 5 years they come up for renewal or not.
