I disagree with the conclusion, but the analysis is otherwise "spot on"...

Did Donald Trump really suggest injecting disinfectant to fight COVID-19? What evidence is he basing this on?

To be clear about this, no. He did not.

 He was also not ‘being sarcastic.’ If you’ve noticed, that’s his current go-to line to walk idiotic statements back.

 Just before Trump took the podium there’s a picture of him staring at a “Best Practices” placard that had just been talked through. This image gives what he said next a lot of context.

 As Trump took the podium, his thoughts almost immediately started to wander, and as is not uncommon when Trump goes off-script, his thoughts escaped his lips.

What Trump was doing was riffing. He does that. He had just read a placard that said light and disinfectants like bleach and isopropyl alcohol kill the virus on surfaces.

His mind started to wonder that if these things killed the virus on surfaces, what would happen if you put them inside the body?

What he’s doing is trying to sound like he’s in charge and leading the experts, and suggesting that if disinfectants kill the virus on surfaces, then, he suggests they should test whether injecting them would kill the virus in the body.

 When you read it, you do not see him suggesting that anyone should shove a lit blacklight up their *** or mainline bleach, he was trying to sound into the conversation and smart, and BOY did he whiff.

 Because yes, these things kill the virus on surfaces.

The problem isn’t the President thinking these things. The problem isn’t even him saying these things.

 The problem is that he’s thinking and saying these things out loud, not in a private meeting with his health experts behind closed doors, but in a nationally televised press conference.

 The problem is that an uncomfortable portion of the population trusts what he says more than they trust what anyone else in the world says. They trust what he says even after he’s walked his statements back because that’s just Trump being Trump....

He still does not understand that the words he speaks, or tweets, are the official position of 1/3 of the US government, and so does not govern his words. He still thinks when he speaks it’s good ol’ Donald Trump. It’s not. It’s the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. You have probably spread a meme or two around talking about how no president’s every word has ever been dissected before…YES, THEY ALWAYS HAVE. It’s just that every other president in our lifetime has understood the importance of his words and took great care to govern his speech. Trump blurts out whatever comes to his mind then complains when people talk about what a dumb thing that was to say.
