I knew there was a good reason we made that one of the Yankee States.
 

West Virginia was and largely still is, a colony of Pittsburgh.
Before the Civil War, they way to cash in bigtime was to buy some land and some slaves to clear it, and plant tobacco and cotton. But the land in WV is full of rocks and what little money entered the economy came from the North. The people of WV could not afford slaves and most of the people were subsistence farmers. As I recall, the main routes to the outside world from WV were one RR that ran east to Baltimore and another that ran north to Pittsburgh. There were a few coal mines, but most of those did not exist until after the Civil War.
 When I lived there, the main newspaper in Buckhannon was called  "The Republican Delta". There were a couple of rivers that met near there and the story is that if one drew a line between them, the area inside the rivers and the imaginary line looked like the Greek letter Delta. That was the story, anyway.  And the founder of the newspaper was a Republican. I thin he had been a Whig previously.

Here's how to prove you are a woman.  Print out "Justthetruth" on your printer and cut it out into a rectangle.  Drop your panties and hold the strip of paper just above your vulva.
