The framers were land and slave owning white supremacist elitists who, more than anything, were concerned that the mob (which is what they considered the electorate to be) could threaten their authority and control.  So they devised an election system for the highest office in the republic, that would provide them with a way, at any time, of manipulating the electoral process in their favor.  The framers didn't give a **** for any minority in the electorate that might end up with the short end of the stick.  If Jefferson was being honest when he wrong the Declaration of Independence what would he have said?

Feh...spend a few hours relaxing at a Japanese style onsen, in Japan or even here in this country, and the attitude of any reasonable person will be forever changed.

So...I've told this story before, but it's such a wonderful moment from my mid-20's, although somewhat discouraging that it didn't become more accepted in our neurotic, puritanistic culture.

It's October 21, 1971, The Grateful Dead and The New Riders Of The Purple Sage at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago. We dropped the red microdot in the car as we drove down North Lakeshore Drive to the Loop for the concert. Nicely cooked by the time we got to our seats. By the second and last intermission, I had to pee and couldn't hold it anymore. But all the restrooms, even the men's had 50+ guys in line, and I was having trouble holding on. So I went downstairs to the mezzanine level, same thing. Down to the main floor leverl, still the same. But finally, down in the basement level, the lines were more reasonable. So I'm in line, tripping my flaming brains out, and I finally get inside the door to the mens room and there it is. Two wash basins right next to each other, and sitting in the sinks with their jeans down around their ankles were two of the most adorable hippie chicks taking a leak in the sinks and sharing a joint. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life...permanently etched into my brain for over 50 years.
