----------------------------------------------------------------------------Approximately 6,000 people have been convicted of marijuana possession in the last 30 years, but none of them are currently incarcerated. Biden’s announcement won’t free anyone from prison. Nor does a pardon expunge a criminal record. Those pardoned will still have convictions on their records that can make them ineligible for housing or employment. To use an overused expression, Biden’s marijuana pardon is a huge nothingburger. This attempt to pull the wool over millions of eyes should be loudly condemned. Many of those 6,000 people convicted were victimized by the 1994 Crime Bill which was championed by a senator named Joe Biden. At the time he bragged that the legislation did “everything but hang people for jaywalking .” Or even send them to jail for marijuana possession.slideman » 15 Feb 2023, 7:41 pm » wrote: ↑ Yes black people do not often call each other that as that is fighting words.

Yes, the pardon was for Federal convictions only, and doesn't address State level charges at all.jerrab » 15 Feb 2023, 8:05 pm » wrote: ↑ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------Approximately 6,000 people have been convicted of marijuana possession in the last 30 years, but none of them are currently incarcerated. In the Southern States it's still illegal, just like it is on the Federal level.Xavier_Onassis » 15 Feb 2023, 8:18 pm » wrote: ↑ The crime bill you refer to is no longer in effect, and Biden has said that it was a mistake.
It has no relevance today.
People convicted of marijuana crimes should all be released.
It is the backward Southern states that have refused to do this.

as far as why so many fathers and mothers were put in prison was because of biden's crime bill in the 70's.

Biden reveled in the politics of the 1994 law, bragging after it passed that “the liberal wing of the Democratic Party” was now for “60 new death penalties,” “70 enhanced penalties,” “100,000 cops,” and “125,000 new state prison cells.”The law imposed tougher prison sentences at the federal level and encouraged states to do the same. It provided funds for states to build more prisons, aimed to fund 100,000 more cops, and backed grant programs that encouraged police officers to carry out more drug-related arrests — an escalation of the war on drugs.

While not actually springing anyone from prison, it did clean up their records a bit... especially the few that only had the Federal charge(s) in their jacket.
It was, by and large, much ado about nothing just the same.
There are still people sitting in prison on State marijuana convictions though... and from what I understand, even in States where weed is legal now, which is asinine.
MTG's track record is impressively awful in comparison to Biden.Mr.7 » 15 Feb 2023, 8:23 pm » wrote: ↑ Great Scotty. And Joey said he would cure cancer.
