DP, I worked with an injun reservation trying to assist the dirty drunken injuns with home loans. They receive government assistance with their down payment. I’d go to their filthy tee pees to interview and 10 out of 10 times they were so boozed up they always forgot the appt. The stink was horrible , vomit, whiz, dog feces, used sanitary napkins splattered on the wall. I never found get them to qualify even with their dirty noun casino incomes. Pigs and filth.

If you study your history, the Columbian Exchange refers to everything from Tierra Del Feugo to Hudson's Bay - the Carribean inclusive.

Considering that tobacco was unknown outside the Americas, the good tobacco was part of the Columbian Exchange.

Considering that tobacco was unknown outside the Americas, the good tobacco was part of the Columbian Exchange.

john rolfe, pochantes husband stole some good tobacco from the spanish and he and pochantes grew and sold tobacco in virginia.

there was only  low grade tobacco in virginia before.

That's a dandy bit of historical trivia - thank you for that clarification. But just to keep us on pace, the Spanish got the good tobacco as part of the Columbian Exchange.

We took a tremendous amount of good things from relatively savage people - though it would be quite dishonest to describe the Aztecs, Incas or Mayans as stone aged. They were quite civilized in terms of their technologies. They had an unfortunate practice of murdering each other for sport, to please the gods. Their sacred spaces - temples to their gods - had human hearts buring as incense at all times. They were EVER so much more brutal to each other than their conquerers were - and be clear that their conquerers were QUITE brutal by today's standards. Just nothing compared to the Natives themselves.

It is worth noting that a few hundred Spaniards conquered tens of millions and governed them rather brutally, forcing them to change religions and deny their gods - such was their loathing for one another. One of their practices before the horrified Spaniards put a stop to it was the trade of the comprachicos. These were the baby-buyers who went into the squalid sections of the city and purchased babies from desperate parents to be turned by human flesh-artisans into freaks for human zoos, using heated metal and hinged vases - not dissimilar to foot binding, but involving the entire human body. We are surprisingly plastic, when taken as infants, and can be formed to a remarkable number of artistic shapes for the pleasure of landed aristocrats. 

The Spaniards put a hurried stop to that ****.

In what year and in what country are you claiming this happened "in europe"? Be specific - time period and nation.

You need to read your own source.

This claim is from a novel written by my very favorite 19th century author, whose Les Miserable is my favorite book. It is a given that Hugo knew about the comprachicos from Cortez et al's correspondence with the vatican. 

Your claim is literally a wisp of vapor - it comes from one mention in a novel, and has no other authority backing it up.
