Gun control activist David Hogg recently stated that the Founding Fathers never intended the 2nd Amendment to protect an individual’s right to own a gun. Hogg wrote a Twitter thread on Sunday insisting that historians and law professors have informed him that the law was "intentionally misinterpreted" away from its intention to "protect state militias." "After reading about the history of the second amendment and talking with a lot of hist & law professors- I believe the second amendment has been intentionally misinterpreted. It was never meant as an individual right it was created to protect state militias like the national guard," Hogg tweeted.
He continued, "It says well-regulated militia for a reason. The ‘shall not be infringed’ part means the federal government is not allowed to forcibly disarm state militias. I’m not alone in this interpretation. Over 100 years of jurisprudence back me up on this."
He added, "To those who don’t agree that’s fine- you are entitled to your own opinion and I’m still ready to work with you on what we can agree on. Disagreement and hatred are not the same thing."
"When I graduate, I will be running for office. And I will win. Things will change, I promise you that."

Bill of Rights are all about INDIVIDUAL freedoms.
The Founding Fathers were way smarter than the children of today; they didn't comingle States Rights with Individual Rights.  I can see it now, the supreme being granted the states god given rights.  Jees, what a *******.

The language of the amendment is clear. You have the right to join or be protected by a well-regulated militia.
That right shall not be infringed.
There is no individual right.

The Federalist papers are an example.
Explain me this if there is a individual right how did we regulate firearms throughout the old west for the last half of the last century?
They just ignored the amendment?

The individual right was invented by the NRA in the 1970s so its funders could sell more guns.
It was not what the founders had in mind at all.

Just a note. The second amendment was ratified in 1791. Before 2008 the amendment had never codified an individual right to bear arms. Then a
conservative Supreme Court suddenly said it had discovered it did. Maybe those "authors of the Constitution" would have been surprised it took so long. More likely they would have been surprised that a politically driven court had the gall to twist their single sentence Amendment into the reverse of what it said.

The Federalist Papers are nothing more than glorified Op-Eds.

The Constitution says what it says.  If the founders wanted it to say something different, they would have written it differently.

A militia is (as defined at the time the Amendment was written) " all able-bodied citizens eligible by law to be called on to provide military service supplementary to the regular armed forces."

In the context it is used, well-regulated means well armed and trained.  It DOES NOT mean legal regulations (restrictions)

It is much more likely that would have been elated that some judge finally had the common sense to open a dictionary and read the definition of the words they wrote, in proper context and in accordance with the commonly accepted manner of writing at the time.
