Considering that there have been more mass shootings in 2023 in the United States than there have been days in 2023, finding some way to stem the carnage seems to be gaining popular support.

People talk about "common sense" gun regulation which certainly presumes a meeting of minds to find that sense that is, in fact, held in common.... but it really degenerates to gun nuts versus gun grabbers and that "common sense" cannot be found, and the bloodbath continues.
I think the writer makes a very compelling argument with solid detail to specific arguments...

i agree with what you're saying...as background checks and red flag laws are needed...the problem remains tho is how do you keep guns out of the hands of criminals and whack jobs...

The rest of your post is fluff. Things change, the world changes. When the 2nd Amendment was written, firearms were muzzle loaded. If you walked into a school room with your rifle or pistol you get one shot off and then you're beaten to death with a wooden chair or a broom handle.
it's people vs government...which in turn makes it singular...

christ, my kids went to school where farm kids brought weapons to school...they were going hunting afterwards...nobody got shot or died...

It does... very infrequently, Navy ships will come upon vessels at sea that have signaled us , are DIW,  or obviously in distress - maybe floundering, and we send a boarding party via Motor Whale Boat to see what assistance is needed and what, if anything we can do to provide it.  The OIC carries a side arm and there are at least two gunner's mates with weapons, along with hospital corpsmen.  I've done that gig three or four times over the years

Show us any protected right in the Constitution that is collective, and not protecting the individual.

Has anybody paid attention to what the thread title actually says?

"David Hogg says Second Amendment 'intentionally misinterpreted' to protect individual rights"

Is anybody really surprised that a prog/lefty wants to remove the protections of individual rights in this Country?

I for one, am not... not in the least.

well UBC's and Red Flag laws are a small step.... but I don't really remember our country being this violent, this shattered, before.  I lived through the entire Selma/fredom riders/civil rights struggle.... I lived through the entire Vietnam war and the giant rips it caused in our country's soul.... but it never was this BLOODY before... and it just seems that, for supporters of the 2nd Amendment, there is no room for compromise... it's like they don't CARE how bloody America gets as long as they get to bear whatever arms they want to, even if their freedom to be armed gives an exploding number of criminals and whack jobs who seem hell bent on killing more and more Americans each and every year the arms they need to commit that carnage.  Seriously.. more mass shootings in 2023 than DAYS in 2023.  What.  The.  ****.

That's because the guns aren't the problem... the degradation of society is.

Firearms have been a part of this Country's culture since it's founding, but have only become a major problem in the last few decades.

When I was in High School, it was not uncommon at all to see gun racks with shotguns and rifles in them in several pickup trucks in the parking lot during school, and no one was ever shot or even threatened with one either.

The only thing that's changed between then and now, is the social environment.

That's a pretty piss poor attitude to take.

How about working towards instilling morality and respect back into the fabric of society again instead?

Firearm restrictions or bans are like putting a bandaid on a sucking chest wound at this point.

Criminals are still going to criminal, and disarming the law abiding citizens is just going to make it easier for them to do so.

What specific steps would you suggest to instill morality and respect back into the fabric of society?

David Hogg says Second Amendment 'intentionally misinterpreted' to protect individual rights (msn.com)
(Full article at above link)

Gun control activist David Hogg recently stated that the Founding Fathers never intended the 2nd Amendment to protect an individual’s right to own a gun. Hogg wrote a Twitter thread on Sunday insisting that historians and law professors have informed him that the law was "intentionally misinterpreted" away from its intention to "protect state militias." "After reading about the history of the second amendment and talking with a lot of hist & law professors- I believe the second amendment has been intentionally misinterpreted. It was never meant as an individual right it was created to protect state militias like the national guard," Hogg tweeted.
He continued, "It says well-regulated militia for a reason. The ‘shall not be infringed’ part means the federal government is not allowed to forcibly disarm state militias. I’m not alone in this interpretation. Over 100 years of jurisprudence back me up on this."
He added, "To those who don’t agree that’s fine- you are entitled to your own opinion and I’m still ready to work with you on what we can agree on. Disagreement and hatred are not the same thing."
"When I graduate, I will be running for office. And I will win. Things will change, I promise you that."

Boss Hogg is a ****!

Instincts have liberties, intellect has property rights because of social consensus was created by reasonable doubt life cannot be self contained by ancestors living merely adapting in the moment here genetically eternally separated now since dawn of contextual law and order reforming opinions how evolving should happen instead of how it naturally occurs.

A mind thinks it can conquer space and control time, but time is an immovable position to things occupying space now never same total sum achieved twice.

Evolving does that as a whole universal moment currently doing what is done specifically individully here, in plain sight. "Self Evident"

If you walked into a school room with your rifle or pistol you get one shot off and then you're beaten to death with a wooden chair or a broom handle.  An AR-15 on fully automatic clears a 30 round clip in under two seconds.  On semi-auto it clears that clip in under 12 seconds.  The 2nd Amendment like so much of this 230 year old document, doesnt apply anymore.

There hasn't been a full auto AR 15 made in decades.  Next, no full auto military weapon has been used in a mass shooting in America.

If you don't like the 2A start a grass root campaign to start Article 5 proceedings to propose an amendment to the constitution.

they have and not enough people are willing to join. Democracies are minority opinions regulate majority of the population one way or another. People electing their tyranny last a couple of generations longer than a person becoming a dictator for a lifetime.

I would guess that's why the bar for amending the constitution is so high.
