Yes, I agree. But unless the guy in the pic is law enforcement in a bad area or regular guy who lives in a bad area that is a little excessive.

I agree...my father died when I was 14. My brother was in the army, so it was my mother and I...and she didn't even have a driver's license...while unfortunate, it may have been the best thing to happen to me...I had to become resourceful...and had to learn everything...mowing lawn, siphoning gas (the hard way), etc...if I didn't know how, I asked...scored a job at Sandy's drive in 3 months after for $1 an hour cash...hell, the morning after I graduated, I thought, "you're on your own and nobody's gonna do it for you!" and never looked back...I'm still of the same mindset today...RedheadedStranger » 23 Feb 2023, 10:36 am » wrote: ↑ Very well said.
Kids today don't know how to handle adversity. Their solution to life kicking them in the balls is to curl up in the fetal position and give up.

what still haunts me today is last year my 9 yo grandson came out to our place without his 14 yo sister...he was absolutely lost...got a Gokart and electric scooter with trails, woods, lake for swimming, etc...but unless you held his hand...I mean, the kid is bright and loves putting stuff together, but just seems lost...IE unless it's a video game, no incentive or sense of adventure...and I'm not one to hold his hand or babysit...

Now explain the root cause.
We've ALWAYS had guns in this country.
What's changed is liberals destroyed the nuclear family, and taught people that human life is meaningless and worthless.
Then on top of that, you force feed psychotic drugs to kids, tell them they are the root of all evil, remove God from society, and then wonder why they act out and kill people...
I guess I need a Rule #3: Liberals don't understand the repercussions of their policies.

Gun control activist David Hogg recently stated that the Founding Fathers never intended the 2nd Amendment to protect an individual’s right to own a gun. Hogg wrote a Twitter thread on Sunday insisting that historians and law professors have informed him that the law was "intentionally misinterpreted" away from its intention to "protect state militias." "After reading about the history of the second amendment and talking with a lot of hist & law professors- I believe the second amendment has been intentionally misinterpreted. It was never meant as an individual right it was created to protect state militias like the national guard," Hogg tweeted.
He continued, "It says well-regulated militia for a reason. The ‘shall not be infringed’ part means the federal government is not allowed to forcibly disarm state militias. I’m not alone in this interpretation. Over 100 years of jurisprudence back me up on this."
He added, "To those who don’t agree that’s fine- you are entitled to your own opinion and I’m still ready to work with you on what we can agree on. Disagreement and hatred are not the same thing."

Kids need to understand at an early age that you lose a hell of a lot more than you win, instead of the opposite. Let the kids scrape their knees instead of throwing a pillow under their asses all the time. Life isn't "fair", and they need to know this right out of the gate.
What we are seeing today in society is a direct reflection of how we, as a society, have been raising our kids for the last couple of decades. We are effectively raising a generation of narcissists, and it shows.
This problem has been YEARS in the making, and can't be corrected overnight, if it can be corrected at all. Even if it can't be righted, saying "**** it" isn't a solution
reminds me of a customer on my mail route...quite wealthy, owned 4 grocery stores with a very nice place on a point of a premier lake in the close to the metro area...couple in their 40's, daughter and son...she didn't work, so she shopped...borderline hoarder...
95% of the days, she had parcels...generally 2-5 and worst days 10-15...
one day another carrier noticed a bunch of her parcels and chuckled, "oh, she's on your route...she used to be on mine...one day this 4' trophy with a boy on a bicycle on top shows up for her. She comes out when I'm delivering it and asked her if her son won some big race...uh, no, I just bought it for him to make him feel good!"

Minus the corporal punishment and minus the mealtime trauma, I have raised my three children pretty much the same way, All three are successful. All three are good citizens, good spouses, good friends, and good employees. They all obey the law and they all have great relationships with their parents. I fully expect them all to be great parents as they move into that phase of their lives.
So I, personally, haven't seen a lot of overly entitled kids in MY life, but all of my kids are grown adults and if any of their childhood friends DID have a sense of entitlement and narcissism back then, either I didn't see it, or I have long since let it slip my mind.
The overriding question is, however.... If you ARE right, and if society has raised self-entitled, weak willed, narcissists for decades, how in the world can we ever fix it?
If we really are as bad as you say, then I wasn't far from wrong yesterday when I posted, "Après nous, le déluge", was I?
like my brother tells me, "we weren't rich nor poor, but at least we weren't abused or had alcoholics for parents..."
I had to laugh at the "be respectful to adults" comment...we lived next to an elderly retired couple...all the kids in the neighborhood called him Bill...one day the old man was out in the front yard talking to Bill and as I was passing by, I said "Hi Bill!" and went on my way...later that day I was called aside and was told, "you don't ever call him Bill...his name is Mr Hedlund!"...I never forgot...

A good bit of that has been lost between our generation and the next unfortunately, and the snowball is rolling into the current generation.
Too many parents these days are trying to be a friend" to their young children instead of a parent... that, or they are simply absent and letting the Xbox or the smartphone (or even worse the education system) raise their kids for them.
Every parent wants their kids to have better than they did, that's only natural... but when the parents had it pretty easy to begin with, what is "better" than that? If mom and dad are constantly throwing pillows under their kids asses all the way into adulthood, then as adults, the kids have no concept of how to handle adversity in adulthood. Couple this with a society that preaches "life must be fair for all" and you end up with a generation of young adults that have a very skewed and false sense of reality, and when they fail, they can't handle it.
Then, they just give up.
