That said I think the public health authorities were largely in good faith and tried to do the best they could to contain the pandemic. I think the assertion that it was an attempt to create an authoritarian government is absurd.

I didn't say anything about creating. It was a test of powers already in place and a gauge of public reaction. A preparation step, not an establishment. Jan 6th was a further test. See how far they can inflate four hours of idiocy into a legitimate threat to our government. Largely successful. I'm not speaking of the truly needy, which we do have numerous assistance programs for--both Federally & Privately funded --- I am speaking of those who Vote for a living.. For too many people, Government handouts have morphed into a reward system for failure, laziness & irresponsibility in exchange for Votes... This was by design... The best current example of this can be seen here in Florida with the passage of our Parental Rights in Education Bill that Desantis signed into law, that keeps Tranny curriculum out of our Pre-Kindergarten through 3rd Grade classrooms.. The lying devient Leftists and their friends in the MSM relabled it as the "Don't Say Gay" Bill, and still failed miserably to stop it, as an overwhelming number of Floridians (of all Political persuasions) supported it.

Based on how poorly so many of our Public Schools perform, the effort & curriculum should be focused on improving the education levels of the Students in Math, Science & English -- not mental illnesses and alternative lifestyle choices that have nothing to do with academic instruction & achievement... If someone is "paying nothing" it's likely they incurred losses in previous calendar tax year which are offsetting any tax money owed in a subsequent year... If you think the Tax Laws should be changed, that's another discussion -- but at present, people are only required to pay what the code requires.. A TAX CHEAT always gets caught since they are BREAKING THE LAW!!
MOST people who pay less taxes are using TAX LAWS to their advantage to PAY LESS IN TAXES and that is PERFECTLY LEGAL!! It called TAX AVOIDANCE and is why no one goes to prison for AVOIDING PAYING TAXES LEGALLY!!
