Anybody here ever ridden in a helicopter?

Much less fly one? I heard from a pilot my mom was dating when I was a kid that most pilots think they are death traps. I've heard even worse things about ospreys. Whoever did that contract work shouldn't be anywhere near another government contract.
Nothing is easier than defending the status quo.

my x took me for a ride! it was fun and very expensive
and the wind to board up! ruined my hair. lol
we flew over our local area.
it really was one of the fun rides of my life!
to see all the woods.. we flew over my house. LOL

When I was a student at NMSU, one of my friends had a Piper J-3, a tiny airplane made of sticks and canvas, and we would fly all over Southern NM, and even down to Palomas, Chihuahua.
This thing could only hold two people, the pilot and a passenger behind him.
Buzzing cattle and even wild horses was always fun.

Been on the A/MH-6 “Little Bird,” the MH-60 "medium" and the MH-47 "heavy" over 300 flights. Mant times I wondered if it was my last flight.
So, let's recap the Ignorance here...shall we.

A Bell 206, a Sikorsky S-76 (like the one Kobe Bryant died in), and some little bubble thing with a recip engine that was used for crop dusting.
The crop duster thing was a bit unnerving, but the other two were cool. The Sikorsky was like riding in a fixed wing.

Both. I was a UH-1H crew member in the army for 15 years. I did a few years on OH-58Ds. They aren’t death traps. The hardest part is holding a 3 ft hover and not move far in any direction.

I think the OP was actually about the recent DoD contract that was awarded to Bell for their replacement design for the Blackhawk.
The Bell V-280 is a tilt rotor design like the Osprey.
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people

When I was in the Air Force I was stationed in South Korea in 1974 and one time the Army flew us to another base and back for a softball tournament in a Black Hawk. It was very noisy and we had to wear noise suppression muffs.

When you read the topic post, he is clearly questioning the new design to replace the Blackhawk, and I concur. Given the Osprey's terrible track record and maintenance costs, going with another tilt rotor probably wasn't the best choice.

My bad. Well it was some kind of big chopper. It held the whole team. I suppose it was some sort of transport aircraft.
