Well I guess that's where we differ. Ukraine might be the first step towards a global imbalance if it is not kept in check. Kind of like a Chamberlin argument for isolationism in my view.

Because not stopping Putin now could lead to further problems for Europe and elsewhere. That's the theory right now I personally hold. I'm not really sure it's sound but that depends on how you look at the situation. Personally, I think its good to stop Putin now before he tries to create something of a Russian Empire by starting with Ukraine. Perhaps stopping Hitler early would have also prevented World War II. I guess you're flying with the idea that America wants to be an empire. Still, we didn't invade them. We invaded Iraq and explain the security interest for Russia in Ukraine in a manner that wouldn't justify further invasions? That's my issue with Russia right now. It's not like they were on track to be the world's sixth largest economy. That is because the Russian "victim" was before the invasion.

Reading your take on the ukraine/russia kerfuffle, one would expect you are utterly ignorant of the historical imperatives compelling russia's actions.
