Why Does Russia Want Tactical Nuclear Weapons in Belarus?

https://www.military.com/daily-news/202 ... larus.html

Hope everyone's day goes well.  Throwing it up on the board for discussion.

I think international arms control could be a good thing. But it will never happen.

The announcement by Russian President Vladimir Putin that he intends to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus appears to be another attempt to raise the stakes in the conflict in Ukraine.

I do not think that NATO wants nukes in Ukraine.

Putin would perhaps want to store some nukes in Belarus so as to make it necessary to bomb two countries rather than one.
I think the US knows where all of Russia's nukes are.
The US would find it more difficult to find them in Belarus if they were hidden there.

nuclear saber rattling. Vlad has done so before. Positioning nukes in Belarus is not so much a move to intimidate Ukraine as it is a move to further solidify Belarus's status as a Russian client/satellite state. If Vlad wants to use nukes in Ukraine, he doesn't need to move them to Belarus to have them be within tactical range... he's already got Ukraine within tactical nuke range.

Depleted Uranium is 59% more dense than lead, and is less malleable, which makes it more effective at piercing armor than bullets made of lead.

It is also radioactive. Using depleted Uranium for weapons also serves to get rid of Uranium that has become too in radioactive to generate hot in reactors.

The **** they don't. Russia didn't expand an inch after the collapse of the Soviet Union until a puppet was installed in Ukraine. They annexed Crimea to maintain deep water ports. Ukraine being fast tracked into nato was an understandable red line. We should have negotiated. This all was easily avoided by stating Ukraine nato membership was not in consideration. Now we have Russia, China, and **** India all creating a new Warsaw Pact.

Give them back? They were Russian. Ukraine was never a nuclear power.

They are Russian satellite "states". Never independent. Would be like Puerto Rico rebels declaring independence from the US.

PUTIN MADE THE DECISION AFTER NWO UK ANNOUNCED IT WOULD TRANSFER TOXIC DEPLETED URANIUM MUNITIONS TO UKRAINE, A MOVE HE DESCRIBED AS RECKLESSNESS.

DEPLOYING TACTICAL NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN BELARUS AND TRAINING THEIR PILOTS TO USE THEM, IS WHAT THE U.S. HAS BEEN DOING WITH ALLIED COUNTRIES FOR DECADES BY KEEPING ITS OWN NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN BELGIUM, GERMANY, ITALY, THE NETHERLANDS AND TURKEY.

Sure...
Arms control is now a dead concept because there is no longer any viable way to enforce it ....because it isn't a uni-polar world anymore ....

And that is my first Salvo on the matter....
