The US has recognized the Communist government of the People's Republic as the legitimate government of China, simply because it controls a billion people, while Taiwan, also known as the Republic of China, has a population of 22 million. That is simply being pragmatic. The PRC claims that Taiwan is a breakaway province, but this is far from the historic truth: the Chinese empire in its final days had always ignored Taiwan, because it was poor and mostly not Mandarin-speaking, and the Japanese invaded. The Japanese brought a lot of modernity to Taiwan between the year they captured it (1898) and the end of WWII (1945) and the Taiwanese are much less anti-Japanese than are the other people who were taken over by the Japanese (for example, the Manchurians).
Mao's strategy in WWII was to lead his army way off in the interior and let the Nationalists under Chang Kai Shek fight the Japanese. That gave the Communists an advantage over the Nationalists, and Mao's Red Army won the last battles in 1950. But China had no navy or any way to invade Taiwan, and the US saw Taiwan as a very convenient ally in the Cold War. The Taiwanese people who lived on Taiwan before the People's Republic took over had no army, and they were overpowered by the Nationalists who came as a evacuated army. Mandarin speaking Mainland Chinese dominated Taiwan until the early 1980's. Presently, Taiwan is a functioning democracy with a much higher standard of living than mainland China.

Mainland China needs US business far more than it needs Taiwan. They are not blockading Taiwan, just talking about it. There has been an unending war of words between the PRC and the ROC from 1950 until now. That is 73 years of verbal warfare.

1) Neither Taiwan, Japan NOR South Korea... NOR the Philippines, Australia, OR ANY of the Pacific Islands in the area... want to have anything to DO with the Marxist socialist totalitarian police state the WORLD calls China... AND are ready to FIGHT the SOB's rather than surrender !
2) Taiwan doesn't want to invade China... BUT, China DEFINITELY wants to invade Taiwan... HOWEVER, China has 100 miles of open ocean to cross before they get ANYWHERE close to Taiwan... and Taiwan has American technology, satellites, and missiles to target and destroy any ships that try to make that crossing... BEFORE they even REACH the Taiwan coast !
3) In order to even attempt the invasion of Taiwan, China is going to have to nullify Japan and South Korea AS WELL as America FIRST... GOOD LUCK with that !

WHY would I say that you might ask? Because Russia had conscripted some 200,000 soldiers earlier this year, and SENT them to the front... BUT in the Month since that has happened... I hear more stories about Russian soldiers who are DRUNK and Surrendering to Ukrainian forces, than I hear about them actually fighting... or about them taking ANY GROUND... AND, Bakhmut is STILL under Ukrainian control... EVEN though Ukrainians have just been sitting and WAITING for the Russians to come and kick them OUT. SO, when Ukraine finally DOES counter attack... I think THEY will roll the RUSKI's back pretty quick.. THEN, once the main supply line is cut... Crimea will be DONE in a week or two ! AND, by that time...
