Question, when I was in school it was 46, but in the last decade there are some saying it is only 23 pairs because they didn't see the double helix when it was assumed 46?

Each chromosome has a double helix. 23 pairs is valid as is 46 total and each individual has that same double helix structure.

The double helix applies to EACH chromosome. It was never assumed the double helix was anything OTHER than a single chromosome. Whether they saw it or not never changed the FACT that each chromosome is paired with ANOTHER one from the biological donor of the mated egg and sperm.

No cumbreath, SCIENCE says that when meiosis occurs, 1/2 the GENETIC MATERIAL of that cell becomes either an EGG or SPERM based on the GENDER of the donors. WHEN it unites, it becomes a HUMAN BEING. The "shedding" of those cells from your skin is cells that HAPPEN TO BE DEAD and no longer being nourished which MUST happen for HUMANS to live !! So you have no "life" whatsoever you are losing or taking. But because it contains genetic material, you can determine the DONOR of those cells.
