"For God so loved mankind that he created 5000 species of biting midgs, in addition to mosquitos, malaria for mosquitos to carry, Guinea worms and a great variety of cancers."

Before that fateful day on which Eve and Adam took extremely bad culinary advice from a loquacious snake who had long legs and loved to run track, all these creatures lived on vegetables.

Ceratopogonidae is a family of flies commonly known as no-see-ums, or biting midges, generally 1–3 millimetres (1⁄16–1⁄8 in) in length. The family includes more than 5,000 species,[2] distributed worldwide, apart from the Antarctic and the Arctic.Ceratopogonidae are holometabolous, meaning their development includes four life stages: egg, larva, pupa, and imago or adult.[3] Most common species in warmer climates will take about two to six weeks to complete a life cycle. Both adult males and females feed on nectar. Most females also feed on the blood of vertebrates, including humans, to get protein for egg-laying. Their bites are painful, and can cause intensely itchy lesions.[4] Their mouthparts are well-developed for cutting the skin of their hosts. Some species prey on other insects.

I've always thought of the nickname as a catch all for irritating flies or gnats or whatevers.
Not all no see ums bite. Some just fly by your eyes, get in there sometimes.

Ticks can fall from trees, I suggest you wrap the sticky tape around your head and throat as tightly as you can pull it.

Flies and gnats can be heard around your ears like mosquitoes. No see ums aren't heard, just felt biting due to the chemical reaction with the human body from their saliva burns.

I have never gotten bed lice. I think I have slept on California a total of five nights in all.
I have never been in a hospital in California.

That's not right! I know people infested with chicken mites! Who don't have chickens!

Poultry mites are easily controlled with diatomaceous earth. I occasionally mix DE into my flocks dust bath, my 25 birds are parasite free.
