It seems like that story just disappeared. I would think that a country spying on us, within the boundaries of our border, would be concerning. Are we supposed to shrug our shoulders and move on?

We and they have billion dollar satellites that are much more invasive.  Much more detailed.
We dont even know that it was a spy satellite.
It appears you are blowing this out of proportion 
 

I would guess that any information gleaned from the remains of the balloon is classified.
US intel does not want the Chinese to know what we know that they know.
Does the public need to know? Probably not.

We want to know what the Chinese are up to.
We do not want the Chinese to know what we know they are up to.
And, of course, vice versa.
There is a reason the term House of Mirrors has been used to refer to espionage.

Wait for some ex CIA guy to retire and write a book. It might take 30 years for it to be published.
 

Biden got paid to let it collect all the info they wanted. He knew and let it fly the who USA before shooting it down. Biden should get the death penalty for Treason.

No sane president would start a nuclear war over espionage.
Not even Trump.

Both the US and China have spy satellites spying on one another. But satellites are less maneuverable than balloons.
Does the US also have balloons? Almost certainly, perhaps better than China.

I understand that the declining and decaying US empire is somewhat upsetting.  
But it cant be stopped.  We did it to ourselves.  China didn't do it.
 

The US and China will continue to spy on one another using satellites, balloons and anything else they think they can get away with.
It could be that the last Chinese balloon was manned, which would be worse than unmanned, and neither side wishes to reveal it. Poor balloon pilot, give his entire family Peking Duck for the next twenty years.
