I think if someone is uncomfortable with their gender identity, they should wait until they are at least 18 years old to be allowed to take such an irreversible decision.

In the past, the medical reason would be because girls would have an excess of blood during their periods or have some kind of ovary symptoms. Also, some people with head trauma would be prescribed them because it had set off 'precocious puberty.' That's when children before 8 years old had started going through puberty prematurely due to their nervous system being disrupted from the head injury. 

It was rare that it was prescribed to kids for the purpose of gender dysphoria. That is a new practice. It's not medical either. 

Also, why would you think a child could make decisions about their sexuality? They are children. Adults have no business forcing this on them. That's why we call you all child groomers. You are grooming them to think in terms of sexual identity. They should first be guided to help them think of their personal identity, before anything sexual comes to light.

If a CHILD under the age of 18 CAN'T SIGN A LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT, how in the HELL can they sign any LEGALLY BINDING CONSENT ORDER to mutilate their BODY with life altering surgery?? THAT IS NOT LIFESAVING IN ANY MANNER!!

Is gender dysphoria a mental disorder?  A diagnosis for gender dysphoria is included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), a manual published by the American Psychiatric Association.

If its not medical, Then who is doing it?  Doctors have to write the scripts and insurance companies have to have medical verificaiton via their formularies.

Let's face it: Young people mature at different rates. Some 16-year-olds are quite responsible and mature, while some 20-year-olds seem like they are stuck in Junior High School. Society has set arbitrary limits for a wide variety of activities from voting to working to driving to gun ownership. Society should do the same thing with gender reassignment surgery. Pick an age. Codify it.

Thanks for the editing advice.  If I ever get around to writing my novel, I'll be sure and send it to you first.  

I would note, however, that if you were to google "Comfortable with Sexuality"  you get about 28 million hits so it's not THAT odd a term.

Doctors can write scripts if they want. Puberty blockers is still medicine. No different than docs writing scripts for anti-depression or anti-anxiety meds. 

By law a 15 year old can't have a drink. Should they be able to elect mutilation surgery? No.

Okay is one thing, Legal is another.

If she is not permitted to have surgery in (name a state), then it ls likely that if she has the money to have it done in (another state.)
If she is likely to commit suicide id=f she does not get what she wants, doesn't that change the acceptability of the surgery?

I see no reason for me, or any government, to get involved here.

Yes. It harms children. Did you even look at the OP? What on Earth would make you think that manipulating children to into mutilating themselves is okay in any context? They are children. They don't have the maturity, or experience, to make these kinds of adult decisions.
