Electrics are generally a PC pile of ****. 
Why the styling is still "trucky" is for mass market appeal.
It's configuration (ie "engine compartment") is useless.

The only actual requirements for front end is bumper/impact crush zone and lights (must fit in area no lower than 16" and no higher than 50" from ground).

Stupid looking, ugly, non-functional.

That said, there is a thing in styling a vehicle called "tension".
You don't want to aim for some moving target broad appeal look most of the time.

Car makers need some folks that really do not like the styling.
This is a signal of sorts that there will be others that really like it.
Like it enough to plunk down the money for it. Love and hate is the tension.

There are lots of boring cars out there.
They are tooled up (not an inexpensive proposition) and they just need to make back some of the loss.
Like a movie that never makes it to the theaters, they start dumping them fairly quickly.
Low production run while getting set for the next vehicle.

I think Telsa is looking pretty dated already. A DeLorean without a movie to market it.

I have a 2014 F150 XLT 4x4 Coyote. I LOVE MY truck. I tell my wife, MY truck is my second favorite wife. She loves MY truck too. We go camping with it and on cross country drives in it. We sleep in it at rest areas to save money while traveling. We only buy a Hotel when we get to the where we are going. My wife is a trooper and loves the drives with me.

I bought my wife a 2022 Acura XLT A Spec SH-AWD. She loves it for her daily driver. It almost drives its self on the highway.

Electrics are in that now. I'm not that stupid to believe we are even close to the end.
Practicalities evade our policy makers all the time.

An off-topic example is pushing for more public transit to "solve a problem".
Meanwhile, the worst form of getting anywhere is . . . public transportation.

Similarly, the stupid push for electrics to go "big time" is waaaay too soon.
The car industry is making its way there but setting arbitrary dates as policy is so **** stupid.
