We DO need a rebirth.  Our democracy is SICK...  no less sick than we were after the election of 1860.  1/6/21 was nothing less than a failed coup attempt.  We must all come away from that precipice and rediscover our shared patriotism and heritage of ALL being immigrants from somewhere.  Some - like you - would have us just move forward as if that entire debacle didn't happen... where a sizeable minority of the population - angry that their "guy" didn't prevail in an election - seemed willing to throw our nearly 250-year-old experiment in democracy on the trash pile of history and summarily install their guy as ruler.  We NEED to FIX that, not just put it in the rearview mirror and pretend it didn't occur or talk ourselves into thinking it wasn't that big deal.   Yeah... a rebirth is JUST what America needs.

I agree with you that our Democracy is SICK.....
But not in the way you seem to think it is .......
When I was serving my specialty was clandestine special operations and I was very good at ....and I am only bringing this up because I and a whole bunch of other former colleagues noticed a whole bunch of things that day which is why in my opinion there wasn't an attempted coup that day ......
In fact an actual coup was commited ....
Now before I go on I need too state that I am like you because I don't give a **** what you think of me or whether you agree with me ....
all I need from you right now to do is to treat this as an intellectual excerise  where we are just two guys discussing the events surrounding The 2020 election  and what occured on Jan.6th.
So, let's start with the election and for arguments sake that the election WAS rigged. ...
Now we all know that numerous states were going to object and not certify on Jan.6th and so did Pelosi and every ABC agency well in advance.
And if they did object and refused to certify congress would have no choice but to call for an investigation into the election because of congressional protocols.
and Pelosi knew this...and it was no secret...

I'd hate to see you in action if the **** ever did hit the fan....you're hysterical now about a protest that turned into a mob by federal infiltration.  I bet you'd curl up in a ball and wet your pants under a real situation.

I will certainly keep an open mind, but I am not sure how we can actually conduct this intellectual exercise if we cannot agree on the basic premise.  How can we start with "the election WAS rigged" when I categorically cannot agree with that premise?    It would be like attempting to have an intellectual discussion about global climate change that began with, "For argument's sake, the world is NOT round but is, instead, flat".  How can we continue down the path of intellectual discussion when one of us hits an absolutely impenetrable brick wall one foot past the starting line?

And I appreciate your credentials, and I thank you for your service.  I was not part of any clandestine operations, but just a simple surface warfare officer plowing through green water on the high seas chasing Russkies.  This fall, I am joining my Annapolis roommate and two other of our classmates for a deepsea fishing/old friends bonding trip to Galveston.  He WAS involved in clandestine special ops and was so good at it, after he retired as an O-6 after commanding a Seal Team, he taught unconventional warfare at the Naval Postgraduate School.  The four of us talk every other week on a Zoom call and the conversation often turns to politics.  The Seal Captain followed the election very closely as did we all, and he didn't find anything suspicious about the election results.  He was as dismayed as I am about the path our nation has taken, and, while I might not still be in as good a shape as I was when at the Academy, HE can still do one-armed pull-ups and is a total badass.

Considering I have always been honest about being an expat with dual citizenship that married a Canadian gIrl 36 years ago and whose father left her a Ranch in Alberta  which she gew up on which is also why we sold our home in San Diego and moved to Canada to run the Ranch she grew up on ....

so, for all intents and purposes the election was rigged in this scenario and the role we play in this scenario is to ensure that those state electors whom are going to object to certifying the election and force an investigation of the 2020 election never happens.

When they reconvened AFTER the coup attempt, EIGHT senators and ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-NINE congressmen DID object!
 
edit:  and both of those groups of legislators were overwhelmingly outvoted by the majority in both chambers... and the election results WERE certified by Congress.

I am not a drag queen and I have never taught elementary school classes. Mostly, I taught in colleges and universities.

My question is would they have voted differently if the events of Jan.6th did not occur ....forcing an emergency session ?
Now, remember every one of those members of both chambers were under "extreme" duress that day and Pelosi forcing an emergency session probably added to their duress which made them vote to certify and get the proceedings over with ASAP.

So, what do we know about that day....in hindsight.
Well, for starters....
 We now  know that Trump did warn Pelosi days prior to beef up security at the capital and that she refused because of optics ....
We now know that under cover agents were embedded  in the crowd dressed like MAGA supporters ....
We now know that The FBI months prior infiltrated the Proud Boys ...
We now know that members of the Capital police did indeed open some doors to allow protesters in while the mob outside was trying to breach the windows and did breach through the windows.
We know that a trigger happy capital police officer shot and killed an unarmed protester ...
We know that two pipe bombs with remote detonators were placed at the DNC and RNC headquarters. ...the night before.
Now, keep the scenario in mind....
what does this tell us....
