I was never in the service. But, I did take up boxing and kickboxing in my 20's and even into my 30's. I have seen some video on Marine's basic training and they learn some basics about fighting. What they learn in a short amount of time doesn't look all that bad either. What I can gather is that the actual time they spend fighting is minimal and they really don't do regular sparring and learning fighting techniques.
I wonder what would happen if someone who is actually a well trained fighter joined the Marines? How would the instructor handle that?
