I was never in the service. But, I did take up boxing and kickboxing in my 20's and even into my 30's. I have seen some video on Marine's basic training and they learn some basics about fighting. What they learn in a short amount of time doesn't look all that bad either. What I can gather is that the actual time they spend fighting is minimal and they really don't do regular sparring and learning fighting techniques.
I wonder what would happen if someone who is actually a well trained fighter joined the Marines? How would the instructor handle that?
I'm not sure what their level of "hand to hand combat" is either...my guess it's more about the shoot 'em up and bayonet or at worst, knife fight...
my assumption is their orders were to probably stand down and not cause any issues or they haven't been in the marines for very long...
