They are not telling people to change their furnaces or stoves. They are simply saying that NEW gas stoves and furnaces will have to comply with new standards. So gradually, people will replace them with more eco-friendly devices and our country will emit less C02.

Its worse then that. My uncle lives in a high end gated community- Half the complex heats on natural gas- the other- electric heat! I may be wrong- but i think the gas- is more then a fireplace. Its a forced air heating system.
