If they spoke about it intermittently then you have a point but when 75% or more of their posts are about it and they post dozens of times on a given day.. that tells me of obsession.

Then that definition fits many others as well.
Must be merely common cyberspace forum behavior then if it includes your ilk, right?

Impartial Observer is conservative on some issues and more liberal on others.  He's probably more of a libertarian.  You can't throw him in with the leftists on this forum, that would be a mistake.

Being a contrarian seems to be his schtick.
He laments others for being one-trick ponies.
I see him as that. Another one-trick pony.

Back to the topic..

Who would these types fear the most? Tough question honestly. They fight in arenas where the conditions are favorable. My best guess would the moderate, average American who neither supports them or reviles them. When the average Americans tunes them out and tires of it... that will stop their progress and push their story to the back page (proverbially speaking).

Showing my conservative side today. We are having a debate about the Oakland A's major league baseball franchise possibly moving to Las Vegas. They want $380 to $425 million in public funds to build this new stadium. I am 100% opposed. Certain unnamed leaders want the prestige of saying, "I brought major league baseball to Las Vegas".. and then when you tell them pro sports is not a job creator, they smile and nod.

I've conversed with Impartial Observer over the years.  Initially, I thought he was a leftist pretending to be some kind of middle of the road moderate.  After I got to know him through his posts and writing, I came to realize that's not the case.  He has an interesting background which shapes his believes that do not necessarily track one side or the other.

He gets board with insults and thoughtless talking points, as do many of us.  He just deals with it differently, I suppose. If he thinks you are capable of having an honest, thought-provoking discussion on his level, he will tend to engage in meaningful discussion.

Pro sports can be a job creator.  However, it depends on a lot of things. The City/County involvement.  Strength of investors.  Control and quality of development.  Location.  Many other factors as well.

Let's take for example the Atlanta Braves moving from downtown Atlanta (Fulton County) to Cobb County, just north of Atlanta.  Cobb County committed to financing $300 million to help with construction of the stadium. Now, an economics professor at Kennesaw State University has been critical of this move, claiming  Cobb County’s decision to help the Braves move from downtown Atlanta is costing taxpayers nearly $15 million a year.

But, statistics tend to lie, and this professor has been forced to acknowledge that  Cobb County has seen a boost in sales tax revenue during Braves' home games, but claims that about 75% of sales tax revenue generated at the property is from Truist Park (The stadium and basically right around the stadium), not the restaurants and shops at The Battery (right next to Truist Park).  Not to mention the overall boost in business revenue on a daily basis and on weekends when the Braves aren't playing or when other events are taking place in the Stadium.  The bottom line is that they way this area was re-developed, the entire area has become a thriving commercial success.  I do believe that in years to come, it will be a net plus, not a net negative to Cobb County.

Other things that do not figure into the calculation is a lot of revitalization of Marietta and Smyrna in Cobb county as a result of the quality of Truist Park and The Battery.

This project is relatively new.  You might want to study up on that one.

PS:  One other thing to note is 1) where these people who want the new Stadium so much own land; 2) what land developers have contributed to their campaign and whether those developers own land near the proposed Stadium.

Would you say that the residents of Fulton, Cobb, Douglas, Dekalb, and Gwinnett counties are mostly transplants from distinctly different areas. Moving from Alabama to this area is not much of a change, I presume.

Las Vegas, on the other hand, is a city almost entirely comprised of transplants from SoCal, Phoenix, and the Midwest. Its old data but as of 2018, over 50% of the county's population (Clark County being one in the same with Las Vegas MSA) had lived there less than 15 years. Why does this matter? If they grew  up elsehwere.. their loyalties lie elsewhere. I live in Reno but I care vastly more about Boise state sports than anything in Nevada.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/biden-anti ... ns/Several new protections for LGBTQ students and families were unveiled on Thursday by the Biden administration, including establishing a coordinator to "lead the charge" against banning books in schools, administration officials said. The yet-to-be-named Education Department coordinator will train school districts and advise them that banning books "may violate federal civil laws if they create a hostile environment for students," said White House domestic policy adviser Neera Tanden. Almost 1,500 instances of book banning in schools, affecting 874 different titles in the first half of this school year, according to PEN America's Index of School Book Bans, representing a nearly 30% increase over the previous school year.

  • Another 41% of titles challenged or banned have content relating to LGBTQIA+ identity and themes, according to PEN.
  • This dynamic has existed for decades. Famed novelist Judy Blume faced heavy scrutiny and calls for censorship in the 1980s for her books that discussed sexuality and self-image.
  • The number one banned book is once again Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe, a graphic memoir that follows Kobabe's journey into exploring their own gender and queer identity.

The pretense that books which do not make the curriculum or library are "banned" is gay in a bad way.

Not every book belongs in an elementary school - is Steven Hawking "banned," or simply not age-appropriate?
