How much does the owner sell, per day, per 32 dollar clerk? How much does he currently profit per gallon?

If each clerk sells a thousand gallons and the owner currently pockets 50 cents a gallon, that's $500 in profit per clerk. He could keep his prices where they are and only lose profits - not money. Or he could raise prices by 25 cents per gallon and offset 100% of losses. Indeed, his profits would increase, given those inputs. 

But that is based on entirely ***-pulled inputs.

Still, at least I went to the trouble of ***-pulling - which is more than some people do...
 
 

Retail outlets do a lot of things when faced with higher operating costs... fewer employees, fewer hours, more automation/online orders, higher prices, or simply shut doors. If 32 is your minimum then there will be 10% of your staff that will be deemed management and therefore have wages 150 % of minimum or so which exacerbates the issue.

At present, the market wage (across all industries and occupations) exceeds the minimum wage. This is an average and so retail (naics 44 and 45) and restaurants (naics 721) represent the lower part of that calculation. So at present, minimum wages are nonbinding. $32 per hour.. far different story.
