That might have ended our long experiment in self government except for enough Republican Senators determined to put the constitution ahead of party and give Nixon the choice of resignation or certain impeachment.
I was opposed to the prosecution of Trump because Republicans today are too weak willed, afraid of Trump, and believe the end justifies the means.
There was no Fox News in 1973.
The entire nation still supported public education, without question.
Today the people who believe in the rule of law are engaged in a long twilight struggle against a radical right wing element of the population that won’t send their kids to school, won’t get vaccinated, don’t believe in the least sacrifice for democracy, and openly advocate civil war.
And those ultra conservatives are our friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens.
They would support Trump regardless of anything he did.
When Bill Clinton stuck his pecker in every girl that was alone in a room with him the left acted and conducted itself exactly like the right is doing today. Do they fit into this equation too, or are just the MAGAs the problem?

Clinton came out and apologized, or rather, he sort of apologized.
Trump could end this tomorrow by saying four things:
1. I believed the election was stolen and I was deceived. Biden won fair and square.
2. In Georgia I was wrong to try and recover what I thought then were stolen votes.
3. I’m sorry I didn’t cooperate with returning my papers.
Here are all the keys to my home and hard drives.
4. I’m turning over my business interests to my children and Melania and I are going to build the most beautiful Presidential Library in world history, and we are searching for a site.
New York City would offer him free real estate downtown to build it.
But it’s not in his nature.
He’s going to drag his entire party down with him.
In fifty years not one soul on this planet will believe Trump was anything but a narcissistic child who destroyed the Republican Party for decades.
Nixon received a state funeral, because he stepped aside and didn’t fight until the bitter end.
43 years ago I could not dream, I’d be a Democrat today.

Now some days I wonder how, I ever was a Republican, but I was and an ardent one.
The worst thing Reagan ever did, was declare catsup was a vegetable.
But the reason for such a ridiculous thing was to allow children to have a cheeseburger with their school lunches. None of us Republicans then actually argued, that catsup was in fact a vegetable.
Today’s Republican Party cannot tell the truth from a lie, or right from wrong, and doesn’t care to try.
To believe for one second Obama was not born exactly where his birth certificate said he was is the original sin of the MAGA Republicans.
Often, truth is elusive.
But often truth means admitting you are wrong.
I’m wrong several times a day, but never on purpose.
The Democrats didn’t claim Ted Cruz was born anyplace but Canada, to an American mother.
It's like an atheist believing female souls are being misfiled into male bodies.Bruce » 26 Jun 2023, 11:01 am » wrote: ↑ The Democrats didn’t claim Ted Cruz was born anyplace but Canada, to an American mother.
That makes Cruz a natural born citizen.
Not one rational soul ever believed Obama was born in Kenya. None. Zero. It is a tooth fairy and Easter Bunny grade lie. Yet not long ago 90% of Republicans doubted Obama was born an American citizen.
I still agree with many conservative policy positions.
But I won’t vote for a grown up without guts enough to renounce the fable of the Kenyan birth.
If a grown up can swallow that whopper whole, they have no limit to the lies they’ll believe.
You know democrats are liars....Bruce » 26 Jun 2023, 11:01 am » wrote: ↑ The Democrats didn’t claim Ted Cruz was born anyplace but Canada, to an American mother.

A firing squad.
I served communion in church as a boy to a “lady” who had a dark beard and masculine voice and physique born what my folks called then a hermorphodite.Cannonpointer » 26 Jun 2023, 12:19 pm » wrote: ↑ It's like an atheist believing female souls are being misfiled into male bodies.
No adult could live with the internal inconsistencies.

She may yet be alive.
She had no say in how she was born, no more than I did.
Maybe one per cent of all the human beings ever born were transgender.
Another reason I can’t imagine ever being a Republican again is having to hate, despise and scorn those unfortunate souls.
I believe in an eternal fire in hell is reserved for those who mock the least of these, our brethren.
And I won’t risk it, myself.
That's quite a case of projection you've got going on there.Bruce » 26 Jun 2023, 9:36 am » wrote: ↑ Today’s Republican Party cannot tell the truth from a lie, or right from wrong, and doesn’t care to try.

And suddenly, the rate of children identifying as transgender is now over 5%.Bruce » 26 Jun 2023, 12:55 pm » wrote: ↑ Maybe one per cent of all the human beings ever born were transgender.
