I haven’t seen a single M1 carbine for sale, or bring carried, or at the range, or even somebody talking about shooting one, in maybe twenty years.

My theory is when cheap AR-15s came out they replaced the M1 Carbine as a range toy.

No M1 Carbine compares to my $500 home built AR.

If you can see a deer here in Missouri, you can drop him, with a standard AR.

A .223 soft point goes in and usually doesn’t exit.

My AR has toys attached all over it. A laser sight, a scope, even a flashlight.

With a clean barrel it groups cheap ammo in an inch at 100 yards.

And while I don’t want one, I could change uppers and have all kinds of other calibers.

Those M1 Carbines are all sitting in safes beside the thirty thirties.

You can buy a carload of M1 carbines, but only collectors want them.

Reagan froze all Class III machine guns in May 1986.  You got to keep our old one, just no new ones.  You can transfer the old ones.

Reopen the 1986 registry. The only reason we buy an AR is because we can’t buy one with a selector switch.

But the new registry is hard. We get some Republicans to work on it to exclude inner city blacks and poor folks and you must have some money and a place to qualify once a year to get a machine gun permit.

As to the 25 million ARs, which would overnight be sort of lame, we’d offer if you pay $200 and qualify,,,,

You get to upgrade to full auto.

Or you can sell the AR to the government defense reserve armory for a thousand bucks

Or keep it, but when you did the next owner has to qualify.


There’d be conversion kits sold by the millions.

Here’s our problem, yours and mine.

When Ronald Reagan froze new machine guns in May 1986, the gun shops were peddling Remington 700s, Ruger 77s, Winchester 70s, and Savage 110s, and Glocks were not invented yet.

Last time I went in a gun shop it was 90+ % black guns, ARs and plastic blaster pistols, and Fudd guns scarce.

That’s because of a $200 transfer fee and a six month wait.  Only gun nuts with money buy machine guns.

If Reagan had a working crystal ball, he’d have banned new AR and AK sales in 86, and put an 8 round 45 caliber exception (1911) on auto pistols, the rest banned.

There would not be hundreds of mass shootings a year.  Not one school with 20 dead children and hundreds of cops cowering in the hallways.

And we were all quite happy, with a Weatherby Mark V 300 Weatherby Mag being every kid’s dream gun.

Our problem is, less than half the population owns guns.

They will eventually tire of this **** of mass murders ever day and we start trying to explain the difference between a clip and a magazine and an assault rifle and a semi automatic modern sporting rifle.

In 1986, a woman could get an abortion until the second the kid popped his head out.  It was her constitutional right!!!

I don't hate guns.  I own guns.  I will admit that I do not get an erection when I clean them or target shoot with them, and I don't have erotic dreams about them at night, but I certainly don't HATE them.

I can’t count all the firearms I’ve owned.  I’ve lost all track.

But the average American doesn’t own even one gun.

Then there’s a huge number of Americans that own one pistol for self defense.

After those, you get Americans like my father who owned one .22 and one shotgun.

Only a small fraction of us, go ape **** and buy guns we forget we’ve bought, and then discover them years later and it’s like Christmas.

Normal, rational people have  not one, tiny little concern we might not get to own our own personal Arsenal.
