It is clear that he did not do the job he was hired for. A life sentence was certainly not the appropriate sentence. I would prefer to hear all the testimony before deciding on an appropriate sentence.

It is doubtful a single other police officer has ever been so prosecuted in the United States.
And, where does that stop, once you start?
How many of the 376 officers in Uvalde should face a life sentence for simple cowardice?

And I too think that paying one's debt to society ought to mean just that. Do your sentence and then step back into society with all rights and privileges. Guns, voting, the whole enchilada. I believe that MAGA's view felons as a bit less than human, kinda like they do blacks and gays, so denying THEM their 2A rights is not the same as denying those same rights to solid, flag wavin' 'Muricans.

The cop should never have been prosecuted. This may have been the only prosecution in the United States of any police officer for failure to stop a crime in progress.
The officer was 60 years old, only had a service revolver, and was facing a kid armed with an AR-15 who was inside of a school firing at children.
He without question was a coward.
But do we demand a man a man be brave or else go to prison for life?
