"And in the process, they themselves have been destroying the legitimacy of the court, which is profoundly dangerous for our entire democracy. We will bury them."

History shows what the parties USED to be. The south used to be solid blue and now it is dead red. The folks who created Jim Crow didn't all LEAVE and their children did not all become tolerant non-racist democrats up north. All the abolitionist republicans that filled New England before the civil war did not all move down south of the Mason-Dixon line. People didn't change, but their party affiliations certainly did. There was a good reason that Ronnie Reagan kicked off his presidential campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi and made "states rights" a theme of his very first campaign speech there.

Demonrats simply refuse to accept that 90-95% of voters think only of themselves. People have been saying "all politics are local" for almost a century for a reason. It is rare that one issue becomes, and stays, in the forefront of the voters minds long enough that it changes the "local" balance of power. funny how quickly the south turned red after the CRA and VRA passed. edit: but the actual watershed turning point was 1948. You should google 1948 DNC convention, Minneapolis Mayor, Hubert Humphrey, keynote address. That was when Strom walked out and pretty soon ALL the racist segregationist southern democrats would be following him.
