NYC suspect on scooter kills 87-year-old man, injures 3 more in broad daylight shooting rampage:
A man walking on Jamaica Avenue was shot to death in the back
A scooter-riding gunman shot four victims in the Brooklyn and Queens boroughs of New York City on Saturday morning, police say.The rampage began in Cypress Hills at around 11:10 a.m., when the 25-year-old male suspect shot a 21-year-old man in the shoulder. Around 20 minutes later, the gunman fatally shot an 87-year-old man once in the back on Jamaica Avenue near 108th Street.The man was transported to Jamaica Hospital and succumbed to his wounds. Police say the gunman also fired randomly at a crowd of people on 108th Street, but did not strike anyone.
A 44-year-old man was reportedly shot near 126th Street in the cheek. He was transported to a hospital and remains in critical condition.
According to authorities, the suspect was arrested near 94th Avenue at around 1:10 p.m. — less than two hours from when the shooting began. The suspect has one prior arrest in the city, police said. The New York Police Department issued pictures of the suspect to every patroller on the streets. Officers were able to arrest him, in addition to recovering the semiautomatic pistol, extended magazines and the scooter.
During a press conference, authorities said that the shooter used an illegal scooter without a valid license plate. Assistant Chief Joseph Kenny also said that the attack appeared to be random."We don't know the motive…If you look at the demographics and pedigree of the victims, they're all different," Kenny said. "At this time, video shows that he's not targeting anybody. He's not following anybody as he's driving on his scooter, he's randomly shooting people."

The police get militarized to deal with mass shootings
Then a cop kills a black kid holding a cell phone and a city burns for days
We all suffer.

In a study published in the journal Trauma Surgery & Acute Care Open on Tuesday, they found that firearms overtook car crashes as the single largest cause of traumatic death in the U.S. in 2017 and 2018, with suicide responsible for the most YPLL from firearms deaths. Older white males were most affected by suicide, and younger Black males were most affected by homicide. There will always be car wrecks, but the government makes standards and regulations about highway safety that actually reduce the death toll.

And it is true Obama issued regulations that allowed bump stocks.
But just that one bump stock ban has completely eliminated bump stocks being used in crime.
The American tradition of gun regulation is by act of Congress.
From 1994 to 2004 the scooter shooter’s extended magazines were outlawed except for police and military.Old magazines were grandfathered
Those are the sort of laws that will reduce mass shootings.

I’ve long been fascinated with the history of rural Missouri, and the old newspapers from about 1880 to about 1920, are just full of young white boys shooting other young white boys, usually with cheap revolvers and a bellyful of whiskey.
Murder trials were public spectacles, greatly enjoyed by the press and crowds.
Self defense might or might not release the shooter. Often both parties were wounded, and it’s surprising how many survived.
The affections of a girl seemed the most common cause.
Ten years for second degree murder seems a standard sentence and the Governor usually granted a pardon of commutation of that.
Then, after about 1920, drunken shootings at pie suppers and dances seems to have just stopped.
Was it Prohibition?

Although none of us may live to see it, the right to own and use a firearm will someday be coupled with greater responsibility than today, and more pride of the right to be armed.
My father had two firearms, a .22 rifle and a 16 gauge shotgun.
He had more enjoyment from those two, than any of us will ever have from a gun safe full of ours.
