Doniphan is maybe 200 some miles East, in the SE corner.

A similar thing happens at Hannibal Missouri, across from Illinois.

There is a pipeline, and it’s next to another state, and there’s bucko gas stations.

Missouri gas prices in those places are usually forty to fifty cents less than the interior of the state.

The MAGA thinks it’s a conspiracy.  His grandfather thought it was a conspiracy.

Christians only, are curious. We ask the manager why.

It’s because out of state gas buyers have no loyalty. They drive out of state to buy gas, for only one reason.

They even post prices on Gas Buddy

Image

The people that drive a long ways, across state lines to buy gas also buy a **** of other stuff.

Those stations selling gas under cost also will be stacked high with liquor and cigarettes and chew.

To fill up my Chrysler cost a whopping $29, just over ten gallons.

At home it’s forty cents more, so I saved less than five bucks.

They had Swisher Sweet cigars for $2.99 a package, too.

Try finding those for less.
You're celebrating pipelines?
Biden closes down pipelines.
You really are a dolt.

Based on what?

Higher inflation ?
How about higher gas prices now than when we had Trump?
How about 7% interest rates?

Why have multiple generations of Christian boys taken pretty girls, to a spot in Oklahoma in the middle of nowhere at midnight to see the spook lights?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spooklight

More than any one man, it’s because of Vance Randolf.

—- Although even some of the local Native Americans insist that the sightings predated the automobile, it's an assertion that lacks any evidence, so it can't be used to prove anything. Most articles online repeat an often-claimed assertion that the first published account was in an 1881 report or pamphlet or article called The Ozark Spook Light but nobody has ever produced a copy of it. Journalist Paul W. Johns, in a series of articles for The Marshfield Mail newspaper, searched extensively for evidence that such a publication ever existed, but came up empty handed. Only one article gave a name for its supposed author — Foster Young — but Johns found no record of any such author either.

Johns went to great pains to find the earliest published accounts. Its very first mention in a book, so far as Johns or anyone else has been able to find, was in the 1947 book variously titled either Ozark Magic and Folklore or Ozark Superstitions by author Vance Randolph, who told exciting tales of witnessing the light himself.
——

I met Vance Randolf on one of his visits to see my grandmother, who also was a locally famous folklorist and perhaps the most beautiful old lady I’ve ever seen in my life.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vance_Randolph

Randolf was a womanizing alcoholic.

But if you’ll take your girl to find the spook lights, it’s a son of a bitch to find.

You travel on ever smaller roads, until there’s a lane (E50th) called Devil’s Promenade.

To see the spook lights, you must turn the car and lights off and wait.

Randolf’s theory was it was the ghosts of dead Indians, but modern observers blame reflected headlights, or magnetism, or swamp gas, or electrical energy from faults on the New Madrid fault line.

The girl will sit there, looking out, and sooner or later she’ll say ooooo loook, ooooo, over there over there!!!

Where? Let’s get out and see what it is !

I saw three of them on Friday night.

But my wife had to point them out.:)

It’s human nature.

Cheap gas at Joplin is just a side benefit.

Biden didn’t allow a second Canadian pipeline, that is true.

The reason the Spook Lights will literally scare the pants off pretty girls, is women have some kind of biological fear, of spiders and snakes and of things that go bump in the dark.  Nearly all have that.  It’s a maternal instinct that likely goes back to her being in the cave and there really were bad things out there in the dark that would eat her and  her brats for supper.

Are there really spook lights on Devil’s Promenade?

Yes.

But what I saw as a probably a yard light from a farm house a quarter mile away almost jumped in the Suburban to get my wife.:)

It was the third time I’d taken her to see the spook lights.

The last two at her request.

Thank you, Vance Randolf, wherever your soul is.

What I sincerely pity the poor MAGAS, is you can show them some Fox News fable is as made up  as the Spook Lights, and they’ll still see scary things that are not real.

There must be some need, for a bogeyman to blame.

When I was a little kid, 60 years ago, my Daddy would buy gas all the time for 22 cents, 23 cents, 21 cents, maybe as high as 24 cents.

And I was a curious little **** and I’d ask why the gas price signs had 23 point 9, why the point 9?

And Daddy would grin and say, go ask Mama, she’ll explain it better.

I’d get the chance to help Mama by fetching her World Books.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mill_(currency)

So early on I knew gas prices ended in mills for the same reason a lot of stores advertised 49 cents a pound chicken and pork. It sounds cheaper than the next price unit.

Gasoline averaged about 23.9 cents a gallon in 1963.

That’s $2.39.9 a gallon today.

But our 1960 Ford got 10 miles per gallon on a good day on a smooth road with a tailwind.

My Chrysler gets 27 mpg at 75 miles an hour, easy.

I’m paying less money for gas than my Daddy did 60 years ago.

And that is almost entirely due to Biden’s drill for oil in Alaska or in the Gulf or anywhere policy.

—-The Biden administration gave formal approval Monday for a huge oil drilling project in Alaska known as Willow, despite widespread opposition because of its likely environmental and climate impacts.
The president is also expected to announce sweeping restrictions on offshore oil leasing in the Arctic Ocean and across Alaska’s North Slope in an apparent effort to temper criticism over the Willow decision and, as one administration official put it, to form a “firewall” to limit future oil leases in the region. The Interior Department said it would issue new rules to block oil and gas leases on more than 13 million of the 23 million acres that form the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska. The drilling project would take place inside the petroleum reserve, which is located about 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The reserve, which has no roads, is the country’s largest single expanse of pristine land.
The restrictions, however, are unlikely to offset concerns that the $8 billion Willow project, led by oil giant ConocoPhillips, will have the potential to produce more than 600 million barrels of crude over 30 years./-/

Those caribou, had better start running.

Uncle Joe is for cheap gas.

No, it was 87 octane, likely 10% corn liquor.:)

I usually buy the top premium, 93 octane no alcohol at home.

The cheap gas at Joplin is all 87 octane straight from the nearest pipeline rack.

It has zero to do with Spook Lights, either.

The federal government built Route 66 starting in 1926.

Joplin was the last place to buy fuel in Missouri.

Oklahoma was like Saudi Arabia is today, oil gushing out when a well was drilled.  Oklahoma protected their refineries and oil producers from price swings.

——

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/200 ... ouri.html#
How come the Show Me State has the lowest gas prices? In Missouri, geography helps keep prices low. The state doesn't have any oil refineries, and its share of U.S. crude oil production is so small that the Department of Energy reports it as 0 percent.

The distribution of gas stations within a state can also make a difference. In Missouri, many pumps are at big-box stores or stations attached to convenience stores—which take in significant income from secondary sales. At these locations, retail gas prices tend to be closer to wholesale prices. (You can find a similar effect on gas prices in Kansas, parts of Pennsylvania, and the upper Great Lakes region.)

Do you actually think someone wouldn't look that up?
It used to, and it’s among the lowest even after Parsons raised the tax gradually.

Cheap gas at Joplin was cheap 60 years ago.

Low gas taxes are not the only reason for cheap gas at Joplin, Doniphan and Hannibal.

The wholesale rack prices tend to be lower there, as well.  Oil companies dump surplus there.

But I was raised not to blame things like the high price of gas on the sitting President if I didn’t like him and make excuses if I did.

I despised Bill Clinton more than Trump.

But one year in the late 1990s I had a propane truck come to my home and I bought 400 gallons for some pittance during the summer. The bill was stupidly cheap, so cheap I wondered how they hauled it.

I remarked to the delivery man I can’t blame Clinton for this bill, can I?

With a straight face he said he’s just lowering it because of the elections.

My brother in law says he’ll raise it to a dollar come December.

I was a Republican then, but wavering.

No I can’t remember ever telling an intentional lie, as an adult.

Or directly calling somebody a liar, either.

When you read all the hateful **** on these pages, those people really do hate Jews, blacks, Mexicans, masks, vaccinations, Democrats, liberals, trannies and groomers.

But most of that hatred is just that old Fox News talking, the same as a drunk when he’s on a bender.

I only hate one thing.

Hatred.

It must burn them alive.

I can honestly speak for the dims right now. No they are not happy. They are actually embarrassed of what the last two and a half years have produced.

Of the 81 million (LoL) Biden voters, polls show that more than half of them (42+ million) do not want him to run again.

He has the worst recorded approval rating than any president in US history.

He is the first dimocrat president ever to have the left wing media turn against him.

And last week you said Jenna Bush is a Democrat..

It's hard to have a discussion with you because you just lie and lie
I made an honest mistake about the gas tax.

And if Jenna Bush isn’t a Democrat she sure acts like one.  But there’s no way to know how she votes.

I’m sorry.  I do **** up. I make mistakes.

But never on purpose.

But I did learn some things from my mistakes.

As of 2023, Alaska has the lowest gas tax in the United States. The state imposes a gas tax rate of $0.09 per gallon, making it the state with the lowest gas tax burden for motorists.
—-

Why in the hell is gasoline so high in Alaska, when it has the lowest gas tax?

Image

—-Alaska gasoline prices are tied to those in the West Coast region, observers say.
The West Coast has experienced a sudden “pop” in gasoline prices stemming from refinery issues there, said Matt Smith, lead oil analyst in the Americas with Kpler, an international firm that tracks markets for gasoline, oil and other commodities.—-
