The film is three hours long and cost 100 million to produce.
My wife and I are going and all our friends.
The Manhattan Project was the greatest triumph of science and industry in all the history of the world.
Less than four years after the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor Americans invented the atom bomb using slide rules and built a bomber fleet to deliver it, and stopped that **** cold.
Oppenheimer was blacklisted in the early fifties and died a liberal icon from too many cigarettes in 1967.
It should be an excellent show.
I will wait until I can watch it paying for my cable bill covers seeing it free. Only thing free in life is the time one has evolving in plain sight until they sacrifice it pretending now isn't eternity.Bruce » 21 Jul 2023, 12:56 am » wrote: ↑ A summer blockbuster movie Oppenheimer opens tomorrow night, at a theatre near you.

It used to be most Americans were proud we took Werner Von Braun and a hand picked team of the best scientists in Germany and instead of being vindictive took them over to America and gave them homes and put them to work for us.Tempest62 » 22 Jul 2023, 9:08 am » wrote: ↑ Ahh, Operation Paperclip! Isn’t it just **** proud and grand, bringing in all the Nazis that infiltrated our govt?
Woohoo!
I was a couple of generations older than the kids in the theatre.Sumela » 22 Jul 2023, 10:38 am » wrote: ↑ Theatre attendance way down.
Many movies are flopping.
I doubt Americans will care about a boring, 3 hour, 80 yr old story. Snoozefest
Most would rather see Marvel *** in tights or Fast and *** 9.
That’s because America was brainwashed, just like you are with your beloved support of child murder.Bruce » 22 Jul 2023, 9:47 am » wrote: ↑ It used to be most Americans were proud we took Werner Von Braun and a hand picked team of the best scientists in Germany and instead of being vindictive took them over to America and gave them homes and put them to work for us.
We still today are probably ahead of the Russians because of policies like that.
a hero? for ending a war?Bruce » 22 Jul 2023, 10:53 am » wrote: ↑ I was a couple of generations older than the kids in the theatre.
The kids loved it, I think more than I did.
I was the only one in there that went out for popcorn and sales were so slow they’d shut down the popper.
The audience was just riveted to the screen.
My progressive wife went in thinking Oppenheimer was a war criminal and left thinking he ended World War Two and was a hero.
Well, which is mostly true.
The entire film assumes Eugene McCarthy was some kind of Satan.
Which again, is more right than wrong. He was an alcoholic grandstanding womanizing demagogue who drank himself to death after the Senate censured him. He ruined countless lives. But there really were communists bent on world domination by force.
Go see it in I Max.
There are scenes that in I Max about stars and exploding A bombs that would be mind blowing.
Oppenheimer is the most expensive indie movie in Holllywood history.
And the historical accuracy is astoundingly good.
The war was over.sootedupCyndi » 22 Jul 2023, 11:57 am » wrote: ↑ a hero? for ending a war?
when the world blows itself up- and someday it will?
we have him to blame.
I wouldn't want to be him and have that on my conscience.
just saying...
and it will happen!
