That was probably for being a felon with a gun during a crime...pretty standard for being a repeat offender.

The law against being addicted to drugs and buying a gun dates at least to the 1968 Gun Control Act.
Here’s the governments case against Hunter.
He bought a Colt Cobra (a new one, not the ones we like) from an FFL.
He was **** his dead brothers wife at the time. Hallie disposed of it afraid Hunter would kill himself. Hunter no longer has it.
Then Hunter writes a book about his struggles with drug addiction.
What if Hunter made that **** up to sell books?
I’ll bet Hunter is the only person the Justice Depatment has ever charged under that statute, on similar facts.
Would any judge not question such a plea?

A federal judge just rejected a plea deal as too harsh for the defendant.
The government is going to be restrained from prosecutorial vindictiveness.
They’ll have to take those misdemeanors to trial.
