Mitch McConnell, 81, suddenly freezes during press conference and has to be helped away from podium in scary scenes

Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell suddenly froze while talking and had to be escorted away from the podium during his press conference on Wednesday. The 81-year-old sparked concerns as he appeared unable to complete his sentence while surrounded by his colleagues.

It comes months after he was released from hospital after he fell during dinner in Washington D.C. McConnell was addressing reporters when he abruptly took a long pause. His colleague, Republican Senator John Thune, then helped McConnell steady himself and move him away from the podium.

Old people like him and others in the Senate impact our democracy.

Is Nikki Haley right?

I assume you mean they impact it negatively.

He is one year older than Stink Finger.  Does having someone that age in the Oval Office impact our democracy in the same way?

Not just the Presidency.

Trump is an incredible specimen of health, but he’s 77.

He’s a Presidential candidate.  If elected he must serve until age 82.

Nikki Haley is twenty years younger.

We elect all those eighty year olds only because the Democrats and the Republicans don’t sort them out in the primaries.

They could, change party rules and stop it.

Party rules cannot violate the US Constitution.

You've heard of that document, haven't you?

As any rational person knows, people are individuals and age differently. I suppose a test for politicians at age 75 would not be a bad idea, but claiming that one person who is 80 is identical to another is medically inaccurate.

McConnell is a power hungry pol who has hardly done a decent job of actually running the country. Mostly, he is just stubborn. He knows Trump is an incompetent criminal who he finds useful only because he has a very dedicated core support within the GOP that he has turned into a cult. A true patriot would have voted to convict and remove Trump the first chance he had.

Hey, *******.  McConnell's job is NOT to run the country.  His job is to represent the people of Kentucky.

So true.

A comprehensive physical and mental exam doesn’t violate that document that I know of.

On paper, and in practice, all members of Congress and  the Executive Branch ought to not be too infirm to serve.

The exam doesn't, but publishing the information without the consent of the individual violates US law and prohibiting someone from getting the party nomination would essentially disclose the results.

You also may run afoul of age discrimination laws.  Someone doesn't have to be over a specific age to be mentally impaired.

Here's a thought, if someone thinks a candidate lacks the mental (or physical) attributes necessary to serve...DON'T VOTE FOR THEM.

He is the highest-ranking Republican in the federal government.  His job is to act as the Senate Minority Leader.  If he cannot function in that capacity, the GOP senators should replace him with another one of their own who can.

Sounds like he was doing a Joe Biden impersonation.

The Republican caucus thinks he CAN function in that capacity.  Your agreement with their decision is not required...and probably not even desired.  And the job of Senate Minority Leader is NOT to lead the country...it's to coordinate activities for the minority party (and negotiate with the Majority leader when possible).

the Executive Office staff and the cabinet all believe that Biden can function in HIS position.  Your agreement with their decision is not required.  If you disagree with it, vote for Joe's opponent in 2024.
