Wouldn't make a difference which Party was in power.... They can't keep Insurers from going insolvent, or moving out of the State... Living in Florida (especially along the coastal regions) has always put people at the mercy of the weather... The costs associated with the Hurricanes from preparedness -- prevention -- rebuilding / repairs -- commerce losses -- job losses etc are astronomical..
. And these costs are greatly compounded by the amount of fraud associated with the aftermath of these storms.. Scamming Contractors, legal litigation from blood-sucking lawyers, huge amounts of false claims and such.. The State has stepped in to try and curb this form of theft --- it has also put pressure on Insurance companies to ease up on some of the stringent requirements to qualify for home coverage.. They also implemented a Grant program for people to retrofit their homes, to lessen damage caused by the storms...
You couldn't be more right regarding the Seniors --- especially those living in a Condo community as I do, where even if your individual Unit is already paid off, you are still obligated to pay the assessment and huge increase in our Quarterly Association Fees to insure the Building & Grounds.. I know this latest assessment which is due end of this month will really hurt some of my older neighbours
Could you share what that quarterly fee is currently running? ( And that includes property tax?). That house hunter show usually ends up on the TV before dozing off, like to see what people are paying around the country, the condo fees always make us cringe.
The politicians could find more money for that last resort Citizens homeowners insurance. It may have to end up being the only insurance in Florida. Interesting article:

Let's hope Florida gets a pass on hurricane season this year.
