Instead, when the market price hits zero the farmer dumps his milk.

Raw milk comes hot and undrinkable from the cow. It must be chilled to 40 degrees immediately.
It must be transported the next day or two to a huge milk plant. There it’s homogenized and pasteurized and skimmed and other dairy products are made. Only the best of it gets bottled and wholesaled to retail stores.
The cows have to be milked twice a day regardless of the price.
In Canada to sell milk you must belong to a coop and if the coop says dump 30,000 pounds of milk, tough ****.

A man has to milk those cows twice a day, all year round.
Then within fifty miles there has to be a dairy cooperative.
The product has a short shelf life and it’s worse than worthless afterwards. It begins to stink.
