Artists do not truly create their work. They receive it. More accurately, they get it from a place that has been called many names. Plato called it the Ideal Sphere. Jung called it the Collective Unconscious. I think of it, in my idiolect, as the getting place. Imagine a fellow without a society writing a hit song. You cannot. He could not.
The job of the artist is to retrieve and polish the work to the best of his or her ability. After that, the public will make of it whatever they wish.

I think the lyrics are important with both songs you noted, country in general is a mess going thru a bad transition, but there are some noteworthy tunes worth listening to.
