There was a time during my time as a young man the Republicans were the Party of Abraham Lincoln and the Lyceum Address.

We knew the only threat to our Constitutional republic was from within, when those who hadn’t the slightest clue what the Lyceum Address was about could be stirred up by a demagogue to envy the good and the righteous who had built estates great or small and rail against the poor on food stamps, or the pitiful penniless refuge mother at the border, who does not qualify for any aid at all except a cage.

I suppose that the institution that claims both Ted Cruz and Barack Obama ought to pay their graduate assistants enough they don’t qualify for food stamps.

I’d guess the typical Campbelitte boy has the equivalent of a four year seminary degree by the time he’s elevated to be an elder in the church when he’s a teenager.

He’d better, because as an elder he’s responsible for knowing when to fire and when to hire a preacher for the church.

And he must be able to audition church specials.

There are two ways to communicate a message to the overworked and underpaid:

1. Teach the Sermon on the Mount 

2.  Offer Satan’s Jeweled Crown of hatred, envy, loathing, jealously, bigotry, and low living.

Or to put it another way, speak to the better angels of human nature or the black passions of the darker angels.
