He was doing his job protecting members of Congress from a self-professed lynch mob that had broken into the capitol and was about to break through the second-to-last barrier between that mob and the congressmen he was protecting.  When the first member of the mob broke through that second-to-last barrier, she confronted the LAST barrier: a bullet from Byrd's weapon.  She was given an order by an armed LEO and she chose to ignore it.  

Stupid redneck cracker bitch got exactly what she deserved and what she asked for.

When a mob of people chant the words, Hang Mike Pence", others are free to assume that hanging Mike Pence is the stated intent of that mob, and they are free to use deadly force to prevent that homicide.  Don't like that?  Don't break into the capitol.  Don't chant "Hang Mike Pence" and ESPECIALLY don't go climbing through a window you just smashed if there is a law enforcement officer on the other side pointing a gun at you.  Easy Peasy.
