They always have alternates, so I’ll bet in such an important case 18 citizens of Washington DC will have to take off two and a half months from work beginning the middle of February.
Hopefully they will be out in time for graduations in May of their kids and grandkids.
It’s a jury trial.
Not just Trump’s time on the cross.

The greatest test of her fairness will be if she allows evidence at trial of Trump’s good faith belief the election was stolen.
Remember, the jury might not have a single Trump voter on it. And if there is a Republican he’ll be a saner type that doesn’t believe in fairy tales.
If she’s cruel she’ll allow Trump to show the jury his motive of why, he tried to interfere with the election.
A fair judge would only allow that evidence at sentencing

If I were Trump’s judge I’d refuse to proceed further without having court appointed psychiatrists, two or three, pass on Trump’s competency to stand trial.
Trump has confessed to his crimes on Fox repeatedly.
His own “lawyer” Rudy Gilliani has confessed in a libel action he knew the lies the gang was using to intimate Ruby Freeman were false. Rudy now has a libel judgment against him.
If Trump still believes he actually won the election he’s completely delusional, and unfit to stand trial.
Then there’d be no trial at all, unless and until Trump understands right from wrong.
And I think we agree if he’s confined to Mar A Largo with a guardian and conservator appointed he’s not a threat to others.
