Me and this beautiful black girl at work  talk about those three  shows and dave Chappelle  a lot.

Hank those are fictional characters created by somebody like my own Grandmother created the four main characters used to sell Winston cigarettes by the Beverley Hillbillies.

They stole her characters and changed their names but they paid $400 and a lifetime supply of Winston cigarettes to my grandfather as a settlement in 1963.

The Sanford and Son theme song is my ringtone on my cell. People from my generation always get a kick out of it when they hear it, but most people under 30 have no idea what it is.

It's funny because it demonstrates a certain lack of understanding about racism between the generations. Shows like All in the Family and The Jeffersons actually improved race relations at the time (IMHO) because they often demonstrated the childish nature  and ridiculousness of being a racist. They basically made fun of the bigots.

Kids today see stuff like that as offensive, where our generation thought it was hilarious.

I was five in 1963, and my mother (Saydee) and grandmother (Ma) and my Uncle Gerald (Sy Thomas) and grandfather (Pa) had already made The Index newspaper the largest selling single press newspaper on the planet earth.

The owner of The Index was a lecherous bastard and son of the owner who had hired my gorgeous young grandmother (who was almost six feet tall) during World War One as a teenager to write news articles.

She married the wealthiest bachelor in the county, my 39 year old widowed grandfather in 1919 when Ma was only 21.

Their first child came along sort of quicker like  than the tother un’s, but ‘‘twas a knowed fact the second and third chilreens always take nine months but the first un’s might come early.

And Ma could play Cherokee Bogie as well or better than Moon Mullican himself.

We didn't have all racial overtones or conflict due to skin pigmentation that is so prevalent today.  Looking in from the outside at my schools it may have seemed somewhat segregated but it wasn't.   My schools basically consisted of a racial dynamic of a ratio split down the middle. I know that is unheard of in most of the country but where I grew up all three school systems inside the county were similar in that ratio. .  The way people clicked up was more symptomatic of the different economic classes than a racial divide.  The blacks who lived in the country were clicked up with one another because they were neighbors and family. The Inner City black folks clicked up for the same reasons as well as the white kids.  Back then CNN's meal ticket was Nancy Grace and a missing white woman.Black people being murdered by cops or white people was not the bread maker for the major news networks just yet. They may have ran the story but it wasn't a constant news cycle.  If a racially motivated murdered occurred it was and made the headlines it was definitely a racially motivated murdered. . This was before don lemons , Rachel Maddie and al sharpton had half hour long segments building straw man arguments of racial inequity. This is before al sharpton got the aids and lost all his weight. B. I ain't going to lie al sharpton needs to eat a cheeseburger or something that mfer still freaks me out when I look at him .That guy looks like a tall oompa loompa from Willy and the Wonka factory.I'm actually  scared if I look at that mfer  I'll have nightmares. . .

My grandmother died kind of suddenly, in 1980. She was sick but expected to recover and Uncle Ben couldn’t wake her up, in the hospital. Her last Ma and Pa weekly installment in The Index was the week before,

The most valuable thing are the original Nanny Jenkins illustration plates. Those plates were only used on genuine, original, printed by The Index Ma Bruce books.

The “book” is actually a 32 page double sided stapled pamphlet, that cost almost nothing to print in 1963 and today can be, and is, counterfeited on any copier.

But they don’t have Nanny’s plates.
