If you bought a roll of 12/2 wire from Home Depot last year and the price was $100 and this year the price is $200, who cares if the price last week was $190?
The point I'm making is, inflation numbers are meaningless until you are personally affected in the pocket book.

nice dodge... did you post this, "you saying there is no inflation?". someone with even basic reading comprehension would read this would go back to the post that you are replying to and look for something that states where said "there is no inflation".

Good point.  I don't believe anyone's numbers when it comes to inflation.  In fact, it makes more sense talking about inflation of specific sectors and goods.  Housing, cars, the cost of food, transportation, entertainment, etc.  All have inflated and continue to inflate at vastly different rates.  I agree with you.  I wish all  of these non-economists would shut the F- up and that each sector be analyzed separately until things stabilize.

Yes, there is inflation. I just like for folks to be straight up and honest so that precludes you. I did not state that there was no inflation... pretty easy, huh?

My guess is that you have little to no idea how the number is formulated and so like 99.9% of internet forum posters (Skans and Spartan from the .org days being the exception).. you take shots at it and claim that someone is "fudging the numbers". And then when asked how.. you will give a bunch of unrelated rhetoric and offer no exact details as to how they supposedly are doctoring this number. 

My prediction is that you will respond with a bunch of gaslighting about how you know everything that there is to know about the CPI and PPE and that I am a liberal..

When I do this, I at least pretend that I have the data. I'll just give an excuse to not show them, such as it's against my religion or I don't have time.

I know the "published" rate is 3.2%.  That means inflation is STILL RISING, whether they include the majority of everyday items or not.
I know the consumer index is still going up!  Wonder why.
So, that means from 2021 to 2022 things cost (for simplicity)9% more.
The RATE of inflation has dropped to 3.2%, so items cost 3.2% more than 2022.
9% in 2022 and another 3.2% in 2023...........where does that leave us?
It's certainly not 3.2% inflation since Biden took office.
I'm just dealing in THEIR numbers and am not even trying to argue their formula for it.  Although we all know common items that everybody uses are not included.
So, you can sit on your high horse and criticize others, but the bare facts speak for themselves.; to all but the current admins defenders.

ok, well then I will ease up. I was wrong. I thought that you were going down the usual conspiratorial thinking route where the number is garbage and only because some anonymous, mythical bean counter and his boss were doctoring numbers. A little insider information.. it is automated. They get inputs from a certain set of sources (stores, retailers, wholesalers, etc) and then run a very complex formula on the data. 

As for there being inflation.. no matter where one lives, one can see it. Why is it there? My theory is that it almost all ties back to the stimulus payments issued by the Biden Administration in 2020 and 2021. Another factor is the bonus $300 in unemployment insurance. Even though that practice ended in Sept 2021... it sets a precedent on the prices folks are willing to pay.
