places that result in larger profits instead of working unions and

Howdy LN.
A year before I was born my parents bought a bunch of carve rosewood furniture that was made in China.
This stuff isn't everyone's cup of tea as far as style but it's held up real good.
The detail work in the carvings has to be seen to be believed.

What really hurts China's reputation is all of the substandard junk tools that's sold through Harbor Freight and also the crappy radio controlled toys they make.
At best some of their power tools might last for the duration of some project you have going at home.
I bought a $70 Chink router for a cabinetry project and it survived.
It was HF's "BEST" choice of routers but yeah no professional would buy one.
I bought their cheapest Rotohammer for various anchor bolt jobs while I was buildig a new concrete slab over an existing concrete slab in my barn.
It was under $100 and it's held up..but again I'm not a pro who will use it every day.
I bought an electric motor from HF to replace the burned out motor in my 2 cylinder air compressor. The Chink motor has the same power / torque rating as the original...but it is not as strong as the original...so I got burned there.
I bought a HF "Hole Hawg" for $29 for an emergency that popped up at work.
I was wiring a new house and an apprentice was dispatched to my job site unannounced...but they forgot to send along a Milwaukee Hole Hawg to keep him busy all day drilling holes to passthe wiring through..
With a 1/2 inch dia "ship auger" drill bit in place. we hit the trigger to drill the very first hole and the gear box exploded ...
For $29.99 it left a puddle of broken gears and grease on the floor......

Sumela still can't give me one quality chinese product in his home. Except for the chink fishing rod he angrily busted in two pounding his cooked chink tv.

So I put a "ship auger" bit into the brand new Chink [HF Chicago Tools] drill motor with the plastic orange case....pressed it into the first 2x4 stud to see how well it would work and the gear box exploded before it finished drilling the first hole...!!!

I will not bore you with story after story but I can vouch for this. Almost every time that I try to "value" shop at Home Depot, Lowe's, Harbor Freight.. if I it lasts to a second project, I am amazed. I bought a jig saw and it lasted maybe an hour before it was basically garbage. When I go for the more expensive brands.. they tend to do better.

I can't say that in every instance, the product is Chinese but where I about lose my mind sometimes is hardware. Maybe I am just unlucky but when I buy new screws, hinges, nails.. the quality of metal lacks. The screws strip out at an inordinate rate, the nails bend far too easily and the hinges/brackets bend or sag. It was a comedy of errors trying to construct a play structure for them. Probably should have made a youtube video or sitcom out of it.
