My good friend JC and I debate the root cause of Trumpism a lot.

JC thinks it’s all bad choices and bad behavior.  He uses a typical beer joint full of people that chose that low life they lead, as his example.

And part of Trumpism is simply bad behavior and bad choices.

But most Trumpies didn’t have a good set of parents that took them to church every Sunday, made sure they got a set of World Books when they were four, and emphasized public education as the key to having a better life than they had.

I can’t imagine anybody raised right being Trumpy.

There was a beer joint just west of the small hammer mill where my father got his feed ground while I was growing up, and on the west side of the beer joint was the town’s public library.

Daddy would take me to town with him to have feed ground, and I’d go to the library while he did.

I’ll never forget the kids my age that played out on the street while their fathers, and occasionally even their mothers, were in that beer joint.

The kids thought I was too goody two shoes to play with them, and maybe I did think I was too good to play in the street in front of a beer joint, when there was a library right there full of books, and good kids whose fathers were getting feed ground.

Fifty some years later I’m certain the kids who played in the street won’t get vaccinated and the ones of us that didn’t want to chance getting our fathers in trouble with our mothers by playing in the street in front of God and everybody on a Saturday morning  in front of a beer joint have all our shots.

But unlike JC, I think it’s because our fathers set us a good example, not because they chose to be all Trumpy.

I asked my Daddy once why the town allowed that awful beer joint, where there was almost a fight over some woman in the beer joint, or some man looking the mother of his kids almost every Saturday morning.

Back then none of the businesses except the barber shops and beauty shops had air conditioning. We could hear the commotion next door.

My father just said the beer joint is open and so is the library. People get to choose where to go.

When you grow up go to college, so your children won’t have to wait beside a beer joint in a library while you get feed ground, and your wife is in the beauty shop.

I just cannot imagine well raised children growing up to be Trumpy.

Maybe a few, but mostly it’s poor raising that turns on that old Fox News.
