Actually I love insects. Grasshoppers (chipolinas) are delicious if cooked right. I make a mean chipolina and jackfruit taco.

It is one thing to eat bugs because you enjoy and actually want to eat the bugs... but it is something else entirely when the State forces you to eat them through control of the food supply.

What's going to stop organized shoplifters from taking down the city owned grocery stores? Since it's going to be tax payer funded they don't have to worry about profits but they will have to worry about huge losses and violence. Seem to be borrowing from the Soviet playbook for this nugget of brilliance.

Watch as the employees they hire are all illegals, except for the plum jobs that will go to their liberal friends and families who have no experience with a retail grocery store but will be handed huge salaries that will cause them to lose a fortune, but it won't matter.  Just picture how long the lines are at the DMV or at the Post Office coming to your grocery store, and marvel how they somehow find the rudest, slowest, and most uneducated minority employees for every government job!
 

ya'll don't seem to understand; once a government entity takes over the stores, they'll have police there to control a government location.

There is one reason that you can't have a govt (city, county, state, federal) run a store... Bureaucracy. A well run grocery store is going to have a lot of decisions, changing of plans, pivoting, etc. You can't do that if you need to get approval for every decision from x and y person.

Just as importantly, the profit margin in a grocery store is miniscule, and staples like coffee and sugar are often sold at a loss in order to get the customer's business.  I seriously doubt a government-run store will do the same.

And I agree that the store will likely employ gun-carrying guards to ward off the shoplifters.  The theft there will come from the employees and the management, and they'll rob the store blind!

Not so sure about the employees robbing them blind. I work for government and they would have strict record keeping.. another drag on efficiency. Too much oversight is a drag on your efficiency. Its hard to explain on a forum like this but there is no profit motive in public service. Your wages stay the same no matter how great a job you do. So I can't see the employees and such doing anything more than they have to.

     I had mentioned in previous posts here of when they opened a Super WalMart just South of me in the heavily Negro populated Town of Lake Park (FL)... 
   
     I can't imagine the logistics & demographics discussion that took place when it was decided this would be a good location to put the store -- which is adjacent to a 400 Unit Section 8 Housing Project, and notorious gang, crime & drug infested **** (called Venetian Isles Apartments at the time)... 
 
     It immediately became a routine occurrence to see Law Enforcement & Emergency Vehicles lit-up in front of the Store --- and a Police or News 12 Helicopter circling overhead.. 

     Within a very short time, the theft (estimated to be $40,000 - $50,000 per week) customer brawls, and assaults on Walmart Management & Staff prompted the need for a Mini Police Substation to be opened and annexed into the Store... 

      The above will be considered a luxury shopping experience compared to the BLM Business Model about to be unleashed in Chicago...

your contention that a government would deliberately seek employees that were known active members of ANTIFA and/or BLM and hire them because of that... this is stuff from the national enquirer. You are quite the comedian if you think that they are going to dig that far into the lives of respective applicants.

No... I work for government and it is not nearly as interesting as you make it seem. Have been a part of 5 recruitments and honestly... pretty boring stuff. 

Of those 5.. we have hired 4 minorities. By your logic.. these were diversity hires. And then comes the inconvenient fact that for each recruitment, we kept them open for 6 months, and yet only 3 white candidates in total. Hmmm... damn. So they have had countless chances to apply and yet do not? The reason is simple and it is not nearly as hollywood-friendly as you would want
